Steak 99 is a decent spot if you're looking for an affordable steak lunch. The lunch set came to about $17+ after GST and service charge, including rice, soup and salad, which makes it reasonably priced. I ordered the House Sirloin (150g). The steak was okay with a nice char on the outside, but there wasn't an option to choose the doneness, so I assume every steak is cooked the same way. The portion was fair, though I was a little disappointed with the bean sprouts—there were probably only around 10 pieces hidden underneath the steak. Overall, it's a decent value-for-money lunch set, but nothing particularly memorable. Good enough for a quick steak fix, though I was hoping for a bit more attention to the sides and the ability to choose the steak doneness.

service: lousy 😭😭 no smiles. and when we asked a question, it was answered in a condescending tone. food: even worse!!!! for the price of 'japanese steak' it tasted like cheap steak. dont even get me started with the portion of beef in the beef curry rice. look at my miso soup. it was given to me with only a quarter filled 💀 i guess overall air con is good and seats are of abundance. but will i go again? absolutely not.

25 Jul 2026 Our first and last visit today. 1. The store manager and the crews do not know how to address customers properly. 2. Malay customers in two were given 4 pax seats though it was peak hour. Shouldn’t 2 pax be given a single table consistently regardless of race? 3. Food was not served in order. I order 2 similar sets in single order but my partner’s food only came after they have served others. 4. Same order but there is no consistency in the way meats are cut. Fats and tendon are not trimmed to create the illusion of the serving size. Some thick and some too thin. Hence, my serving was too chewy and dry because it was too thin while my partner’s serving was thick and fat which turned out softer. Shouldn’t all meat in same thickness consistently? This is very important because the thickness will allow the crews some time to serve while ensuring the meat is not overcooked when it reaches the customers. 5. I saw the young man scooped the rice that was accidentally dropped onto the table into the rice cooker. By hygiene standard, this has contaminated the clean rice. Shouldn’t the rice outside of rice cooker be thrown away? 6. The kitchen space must be so small that they had to refill the sauces on a customer’s table. 7. All the crews were just busy headless chickens. No clear roles. The young boy was scooping rice, scooping soup, serving to table, and also trying to refill sauces. He doesn’t look trained. Look like a part-time staff to me. 8. We ordered the cheapest on the menu, the quality failed our expectations. Instead of ordering more, we went to another restaurant. The budget pricing is attractive but quality needs to match up for recurring visits.

Yesterday we went to this popular steak house and ordered two sets of Sirloin steak for lunch. My wife's came first. She started slicing the meat and letting it cook on the hot stone while I waited for mine. Ten minutes later mine came, but to her chagrin the meat still looked quite red on the inside (see photo). I had no problem with mine and exchanged portion of my medium well meat with her medium rare ones. In the end she did not finish her plate. We couldn't figure out the reason, but suspected that her hot stone might not have heated long enough. On hindsight, we should've ask the waited to reheat the stone or grill the meat again. Our first experience with Steak 99 was at Plaza Singapura and it was good. But the JEM experience left much to be desired. Still, those who like theirs medium rare should have no issue, I guess.

Ordered lunch set on Tuesday afternoon 18 August, around $16 per pax after GST & service charge. Hotplate arrived not hot, steak could not cook past rare-ish. First photo was around 5mins after food was delivered and the second photo was the steak around 20mins later.

Well I rarely give negative feedback at places unless it really upsets me overall, and I’m afraid my experience here was quite upsetting. Firstly, the staff at the waiting area in front of the restaurant said she needed to see all members of the group to allow them to sit. Like you know how people usually send half of their grp to go to the restaurant first to grab seats and order first while the others are on the way? Well … here, it’s like an immigration for just a simple meal. They need to see ALL your FACES to allow you to sit and place an order. Fine, this isn’t the worst. 10 mins after we were seated, we were asked to change seats to accommodate a 10 pax group that just arrived. That’s not just unprofessional, that’s quite inconvenient for customers to say the least. It’s not at all the kind of atmosphere you want to create in a restaurant. That’s why there’s something known as “reservations” for big groups so that they don’t cause inconveniences like this upon walk-in! And as if this didn’t go bad, the lady who asked us to change tables did not even inform her other staff, so we were initially served the wrong meals. They did not even provide a bill for us to check our orders against! Gosh… And, the payment process… my goodness. It was so terrible. Firsly, their online menu webpage kept refreshing for some reason or glitching, and the payment process was a hassle because they dont accept methods like apple pay. So… yeah. Terrible experience overall. I will not recommend or return again, I’m afraid.

I know this place is famous for its $9.90 steak, so I wasn’t expecting top-quality beef. However, I also didn’t expect it to be this bad. This was by far the worst steak I’ve ever had. The beef had a noticeable rainbow-like (iridescent) sheen, which was very off-putting. The texture felt like the meat had been soaked in baking soda for far too long—it was unnaturally soft and mushy. It didn’t even taste like beef. Overall, the quality was extremely disappointing and made me question the consistency of the food. Unfortunately, this was my first visit, and it will also be my last. I won’t be returning.

We tried the $11.90 set meal and found the steak to be okay for the price with decent value overall if you’re looking for an affordable meal. However, the service experience was quite disappointing. The staff did not appear welcoming and did not smile. When I requested assistance with the chairs as I had children with me, the response felt unfriendly, as if the request was inconvenient. During the meal, staff were also cleaning the lights and ceiling above the dining area using a dirty rag, which felt unhygienic and disruptive while customers were eating. There also seemed to be some tense communication between staff members during this, including a senior female staff member (possibly named Juni) instructing others in a manner that came across as quite harsh. Overall, while the food is acceptable for the price point, the service and dining environment need significant improvement.
