Fish Mart Sakuraya

Have been buying sashimi from Fish Mart Sakuraya on and off over the years. It is serviceable sashimi for the mass market, and nothing like the quality that you will be able to get at a higher end restaurant. I don't really like their dine in food options though, but that is just me. Be prepared to wait for your takeaway during rush hours as everyone dining is basically ordering their sashimi.

They have weekday lunch sets available which is pretty worth it. I got the grilled saba fish and chicken karaage set. I also got a separate ala carte order of hana maki sushi. Food and service were both not bad!

Very disappointed. Far cry from the good old days at parkway where it started off as fresh fish that you can eat on the spot. It has since evolved into a restaurant that doesn’t do well in any area. Cooked food is not at the standard that we are being charged for. The sashimi has increased in prices, while the portions contained bones when served. Won’t be back for a while.

A deeply disappointing experience from start to finish. The restaurant promotes itself as serving fresh, high-quality Japanese cuisine, but the reality was the complete opposite. Nothing we were served felt fresh or carefully prepared. The ikura was the first red flag , it had a sour, unpleasant taste, clearly not in good condition. We informed the waitress and asked for a change, but there was no apology or sense of urgency, just indifference. That set the tone for the rest of the meal. The tempura was another letdown. Instead of being crisp as it should be, it arrived bland, heavy, and oddly dry, almost like it had been sitting out too long. The texture was completely off and unappetising. The clam soup was no better; the broth was like butter water and the clams themselves were tasteless, offering none of the briny freshness you would expect. To make matters worse, our order of shio cod was served incorrectly as teriyaki. By that point, we were too exhausted and frustrated with the meal to even send it back. There was no follow-up apology or attempt to make things right. Even salmon belly can be so wrong. It was cut into strips instead of standard sizes . Overall, this restaurant falls far below even basic standards for Japanese dining. It feels careless, inconsistent, and poorly managed. There are far better options available, even at a modest price point. This is not a place we would return to or recommend. No one should.

Everything seemed fine at first. But things went downhill when i went to the sashimi section.The auntie chef that was standing at the sashimi display taken in the picture was staring and glaring at me while me & my partner were choosing the sashimi, even though we didn’t mess anything up and placed everything back properly. It felt very uncomfortable and unwelcoming.So unnecessary and unprofessional. We ordered quite a lot of food, and everything was disappointing. • Kama shioyaki - had no grilled flavour at all it was watery and bland.Food presentation was awful, like serving to animals instead honestly no effort was put in. • Asari clam soup - was terrible the wine completely overpowered the soup, leaving a bitter aftertaste. The clams weren’t sweet at all, just tasteless ,clams should be sweet but its tasteless !! • Sashimi ,Salmon/Salmon Belly/Tuna - was not fresh, tasted so bad we didn’t even finish it.The slices that where cut was pathetic, look like sashimi you will buy at some cheap sushi counter store but worse . • Chawamushi - was extremely bland, no umami taste • Karaage - was the only decent dish — crispy, but over-fried •. Buta Shogayaki - Over cooked, and too salty Spent $180 and it was a complete waste of money.Daylight Robbery .Definitely won’t return. If you’re serving Japanese food like this, please don’t ruin the reputation of Japanese cuisine.Shame on this restaurant.

Reliable place for good quality Japanese food, especially sashimi. Order the sashimi from the fresh seafood counter, rather than from the menu. You can thus decide how much weight/portion of sashimi you want. Tempura is great; udon is ok. Daily lunch specials ($13.80++ - $19.80++) available. - The wait for the food is quite long though. Prices below before ++. This outlet has been here for the longest time and bigger branch with a mini mart they sell Japanese ingredients, drinks and snacks. Like their range of sashimi to choose from. Food quality remains and serve really authentic quality Japanese cuisine. A must go place or must order for sashimi. Entire place is kept clean and neat.
