Dong Bei Ren Jia

This is a place I always visit whenever I go to Singapore. You can enjoy delicious Chinese food at a great value. My recommended dishes are the Guobaorou, Mapo Tofu, and Fried Dumplings. The Guobaorou isn't overly sweet, and the sauce has a hint of vinegar acidity, so it isn't greasy at all. Another thing I've always liked is that even though it comes served with plenty of sauce, it stays crispy right down to the last piece. The Mapo Tofu is truly delicious when mixed with white rice while it's still hot. Those who enjoy spices will definitely love it. The soft tofu pairs perfectly with the spicy sauce. The Fried Dumplings are also tasty, with a chewy wrapper and a moist filling. Give it a visit when you come to Chinatown!!

This was my favorite restaurant two years ago, but I hadn't been there in a long time. When I came back, I found it had been renovated and they'd added a barbecue section. However, the quality of the food had dropped significantly. The food arrived in less than ten minutes after I ordered, so I'm not sure if it was freshly cooked, but it definitely lacked the wok hei (wok aroma/wok flavor). I ordered cumin beef, which tasted just like the grilled skewers—very heavily seasoned.

I came here after seeing the comments on Sung Si-kyung's "I'll Eat It." The Mapo Tofu is really delicious. After eating greasy food since coming to Singapore, eating food with a strong mala flavor feels refreshing and great.

Sampling the authentic flavors instantly brought a warm satisfaction to my culinary adventure. The cooking sounds from the kitchen created an inviting ambiance. Biting into the succulent pork revealed the depth of each dish. Tasty starters laid the groundwork for the main courses, enhancing the overall experience. The unique taste of the regional dishes made for an unforgettable dining journey.

The variety of options from the northern region on the menu was impressive. Attentive service added to the overall pleasant dining experience.

The authentic flavors here were a delightful surprise. We tried the appetizers, which were truly appetizing. The tender pork was particularly outstanding, with a very satisfying texture. The portions were generous; it was easily shared among several people. The characteristics of Northern Chinese cuisine were showcased to the fullest, making me feel right at home.

My wife mentioned that she visited no less than three times last year, so we stopped by on our way to Singapore this time. The Guobaorou had a slightly sour taste, but the degree of frying and the thickness were absolutely perfect. The Mapo Tofu was also really delicious, and I could see why they keep expanding with branches. Considering the cost of living in Singapore, it offers incredible value for money. I highly recommend it!

Favorite dongbei restaurant in Chinatown. Less crowded than the big multistore one on main street yet taste great and authentic nonetheless. Dishes are served quickly and in good quantity for sharing among friends.
