Tiong Bahru Bakery

I visited Tiong Bahru Bakery three days ago and ordered two breads for takeaway, including a croissant sandwich with mushrooms. I am extremely disappointed and honestly quite disturbed by what I experienced. To begin with, the croissant sandwich was overly salty and unpleasant. However, the real issue was the hygiene. I found a strand of hair outside the packaging, which I initially tried to ignore. Unfortunately, when I started eating the sandwich, I discovered another piece of hair inside the sandwich itself, mixed in with the mushrooms. It was not immediately noticeable and could easily have been consumed if I hadn’t been paying close attention. Finding hair inside food is completely unacceptable and deeply unhygienic. This is not a small oversight, it reflects very poorly on your food preparation standards and overall cleanliness. I contacted the management team directly to address this issue before leaving a public review. I was told that they would investigate the matter and that they would contact me the next day after looking into it. However, despite this assurance, I have not received any follow-up or communication from them at all. What made the situation even more frustrating was the way the matter was handled during our conversation. Rather than addressing the issue with concern and accountability, the response suggested there were doubts about my complaint and that it would need to be investigated carefully. I was even asked whether I had visited other places, despite the fact that I had just opened the packaging for my dinner. This entire experience has been incredibly disappointing. Not only was the food unhygienic, but the handling of the complaint has shown a lack of professionalism and customer care. Being told that I would be contacted and then receiving no response only adds to the frustration and leaves me feeling completely disregarded as a customer. I will not be visiting again. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously, improves hygiene standards, and learns how to handle customer complaints with transparency, respect, and responsibility. This experience has significantly damaged my trust in your brand.

The kouign-amann is very well done and tastes quite authentic. However, some of the more creative offerings—like the gochujang chili cheese twist and a few of the sandwiches—didn’t quite land for me, as they felt a bit lacking in flavor. I always appreciate bakeries that experiment and try new ideas, but execution matters, and not every combination worked here. Service was also on the slower side. The group ahead of me ordered five pastries, yet checkout took over ten minutes. I understand that staff may still be in training, but watching the cashier repeatedly consult colleagues to identify pastries made the wait feel unnecessarily long.

I visited Tiong Bahru Bakery around 9 a.m., and it was relatively quiet, making it easy to browse and order. There are plenty of seats, including additional seating further inside the shop, so finding a place to sit wasn’t a problem. I ordered the following items: ・Croissant ・Pain au Chocolat ・Raspberry & Vanilla Cream Ribbon ・Banoffee Pain Suisse ・Canele The Raspberry & Vanilla Cream Ribbon looked very cute, and the raspberry sauce inside added a nice sweet-and-tangy flavor that made it especially delicious. The Banoffee Pain Suisse was rich and indulgent, with a generous filling of chocolate and banana sauce that was very satisfying. Both the croissant and pain au chocolat had a great buttery aroma and tasted consistently good. The canele had a nicely firm exterior with a moist interior. Overall, everything was high quality, and it’s a great bakery for breakfast or a light brunch.

Always a must-visit whenever I’m in Singapore. This is the flagship store of Tiong Bahru Bakery, and you’ll also find their branches all around the city. We stopped by for breakfast and ordered a mix of savory and sweet pastries. The space is beautiful and welcoming, filled with that irresistible smell of freshly baked bread. There are plenty of seating options, both indoor and outdoor, which makes it perfect for a relaxed morning. Highlights for me were the Kouign-Amann, the sandwiches, and the hot chai latte—everything was beautifully made and absolutely delicious. I even took a Kouign-Amann to go, and it stayed fresh throughout a two-hour flight. Highly recommended and definitely not to be missed when visiting Singapore.

Loved the newly decorated space! Have been a customer of TBB since it first opened in 2012, where I was especially pleased to find that they kouign Aman, having discovered the heaven-sent pastry the year before when I fist visited Paris!!! They should bring back the pecan & pear kouign aman- I remember loving that combination! I love the (hopefully it’ll be a mainstay) banana caramel latte, strawberry tart, hot honey shio pan, meatball danish (this was SO good)!!! Have not managed to acquire their kouign am on my recent two visits as it keeps selling out ): The cookies indeed aren’t their forte- tho kudos for attempting to be innovative with salted egg flavour (I really wish they can work on the recipe for the texture of the cookie!!) I really wanted to like the strawberry, lychee and rose croissant but for some strange reason the combination does not work well :/ (I supposed there’s a reason why the famed flavour Ispahan is made with raspberries…)

Visited for the first time today and will definitely visit again. The aesthetic is so pleasing; as you walk in the door you are immediately greeted by the overwhelming number of delicious offerings, it's quite the wow moment. We made our choices and were delighted to be asked if we'd like them warmed, which we did. I asked my daughter "On a scale of 1 to 5, what would you rate your Croissant?" and she replied "A solid 4." I then asked her "what let it down?" and she said "nothing, but I'm keeping the extra 1 up my sleeve incase I eat a better one one day 😆 My apple scroll thingy was delicious and not too sweet and the Iced Latte, one of the nicest I've had in Singapore. Highly recommend a visit to Tiong Bahru Bakery when visiting this special little area of Singapore.

Update: no service recovery to "make things right" after providing my contract details. Just email reply to say "Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we hope to provide you with a better experience in the future." Unpleasant & disappointing experience at this outlet. Cashier messed my order up despite taking a long time to key in, it's not even a complicated one - cake to dine in and coffee to go (since I had a Chocofin coffee voucher). Firstly she charged me the wrong amt initially and I had to point it out. No receipt given during payment n I tot - ok no biggie. Took my queue plate, waited 20 mins n cake not served. Enquired at counter only to realise my cheesecake had been sitting in a TAKEAWAY box. Asked for a receipt reprint n realised she keyed in as a TAKEAWAY - while charging 10% svc chg n 9% gst. How messed up. By then, my cheesecake had oredi slided off its crumb base. Also - my missing coffee? Still missing so I had to remind em to serve it to me. Outlet was not even crowded. Revamp is nice but pls maintain ur service standards too.

Visited this branch the first time. The pastries are arranged like any other bread shops in Singapore and you can self-serve before going to the cashier to pay for it. This is unlike other TBB outlets where every bread and pastry is behind the counter. Still, tables are first come first serve. There is no one to serve u a table and you have to find one yourself. Coffee and pastries that you asked to warm will be served to you. Service waiting time is pretty fast. There isn't a lot of tables btw, and we were here on a weekday so it was not crowded. For those who are driving here, the carparks immediately outside the cafe are for seasoned holders. I got a ticket within 5 mins! Don't risk it!
