Chin Mee Chin Confectionery

An old school kopitiam (cafe) which was nearly retired for good before someone bought over the business to run it and at the same time kept the old decor with higher costs of goods sold at the shop. I love the decor as they still use the retro marble table tops and wooden chairs, plus the floor tiles will definitely complete the nostalgic feel! The kopitiam closes pretty early as before; Around 3pm. However I feel that their kaya tastes better than most other kopitiams and my friend said the hot tea with lemon were made with the right ratio of tea and water, not like some shops which serves diluted type.

Since 1925.. tried it for the first time today and agree with many reviewers, they serve the best kaya toast in Singapore. Generous spread of homemade kaya, warm and crispy bread, which is still fluffy soft inside.. Ordering online was a breeze, with complete options - for the eggs: normal, more cooked, or hard boiled. For the hot drinks: normal, kosong, siew dai, or siew siew dai (very little sugar)! Plus, choice of gao (stronger), po (thinner), or tilok (no additional water). We were also happy with the Chicken Rendang puff - its pastry was sooo flaky and light, the fillings were generous with a whiff of lemongrass, and the Pang Susi - soft bun filled with savoury minced pork meat, with a hint of garlic. Staff were friendly, cheerful and unassuming. Large and ample number of fans cool the outdoor, pet-friendly area. It is also tastefully renovated, modern yet blending in with their history. We came on a Monday late morning, so there was no wait for seats. Love!

For drinks, I’d go for the kopi o kosong peng over the teh C kosong peng — the coffee is nicely roasted without that sour note. Would recommend ordering the drinks hot to complete the experience as they are served in old-school cups. For toast, I still lean towards Ya Kun’s style over Chin Mee Chin’s. That said Chin mee chin’s kaya is solid and their eggs are creamy. Personally prefer their kaya spread over peanut butter but good to order both to try. They also offer a range of local mains, along with pastries and desserts. Overall, I’d recommend it if you’re around the Siglap–Joo Chiat area. The space balances vintage nostalgia with modern touches, paired with efficient service and a breezy outdoor seating area cooled by large fans. Come for the vibes.

I finally had the chance to visit Chin Mee Chin after its reopening, and unfortunately, it was quite a disappointment. We ordered the curry chicken with rice, Hainanese pork chop, and the kaya toast set, all of which turned out to be rather average and lacking the quality I was expecting. Nothing stood out, and the dishes felt underwhelming overall. What really sealed the experience was the teh-c siew dai. It was extremely diluted, with barely any tea flavour. After one sip, I completely lost interest, it was that bad. Given the hype and nostalgia surrounding this place, I honestly expected much better. Sadly, this visit didn’t live up to expectations.

One of the older breakfast cafés in Singapore, recently refreshed with a more contemporary look. The interior now features Nyonya tiles and a light blue-and-white palette that feels distinctly local while still clean and welcoming. I came here with a Japanese friend visiting the city. It works well as an introduction to local breakfast culture. The kaya butter toast remains the highlight, with some variations that include toppings like meat floss or Malay fish cake. The coffee menu is quite extensive, including versions with coconut milk. It’s worth taking a moment to read through before ordering. Coming early in the morning is best. The air is cooler, and the place feels calmer before the day fully begins.

This was worth the almost 30 mins travel time from our hotel just to have breakfast. You can easily spot the cafe as it is located at the corner of the street with a large signage on the wall. We had kaya toast for breakfast on our 6-day trip in Singapore and this was the best among them. The kaya spread is not too sweet and it does not have any preservatives. The service was good too as the staff were accommodating and attentive. I had to buy many bottles of the spread to bring home. We also enjoyed the one with the bacon, love the smokiness and sweetness.

This place used to be famous for their puffs and pastries. After the revamp, it somehow became advertised for the toast eggs set. Yet, the eggs doesn't go well with their type of toast they have which is a round bun cut in half and toasted. Individually the items are good but you can't dip the toast into the eggs like the normal slice bread toasts. They are also on the pricier side. Would recommend their custart puff and other pastries individually instead of the eggs set.

Visited around 12:30pm on Sunday and was happy to see there was barely any queue. The male staff at entrance was friendly, always smiling and made the experience even more pleasant. Ordering was super convenient, you can just scan the QR code and place your order, which made the whole process quick and hassle-free. The food was amazing, especially the chicken curry, which was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The ambiance was also really nice, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal.
