Obongzip 오봉집 (Star Vista)

Had a fantastic dining experience at Obongzip (The Star Vista)! The food was outstanding from start to finish. The octopus was incredibly soft and tender, the meat was juicy and well-cooked, and the crispy tteokbokki was absolutely amazing—crispy on the outside while still chewy inside. Every dish was packed with flavour. A special shoutout to Sunny, who made our visit even more enjoyable. She was warm, attentive, and recommended dishes that turned out to be excellent choices. Although she accidentally keyed in one of our orders incorrectly, she was genuinely apologetic, explained the situation clearly, and handled it with professionalism. She also checked in on us throughout the meal to make sure everything was alright, which made us feel well taken care of. Great food, excellent service, and wonderful hospitality. Thank you, Sunny, for making our dinner such a pleasant experience. We’ll definitely be back!

Visited on a Tuesday night with a group of 5 and had a waiting time for about 40mins. The staffs spoke simple English but I still find it hard to communicate with them. The foods came pretty fast after ordering. Portion was huge! Free flow side dish (not the best side dish as compared to other K food establishment). I was super excited as I finally get to try the viral grilled tteok seen on social media. I love this dish especially when it was still steaming hot. It came with honey as condiment and the dish is surprising sweet even without the honey. It had a chewy and crispy texture. Yummy! For this restaurant, there were 3 levels to the spiciness. For a non-spicy eater, I could manage level 1. The fire-grilled spicy octopus were fresh and chewy with lots of cabbages. The pork belly bossam was average as there seems to be more fats than meat. The spicy buckwheat noodle texture was smooth. Overall, the grilled tteok is worth trying but if you are not a person who eat spicy, this restaurant may not be suitable.

Was excited to finally try this popular restaurant and their viral Tteok! Started off promising with nubbad tasting mIyuk guk (kelp soup). Soup and banchan Side dishes are refillable too. Service by the boys was generally good too. Friendly, polite. Ordered the Bossam+Octopus. It’s my first time having bossam but it’s as plain tasting as I imagined boiled pork to be. Soft i guess and maybe needed to pair with the “special” bossam kimchi that’s sold separately. Which we didn’t order. The octopus was alright. Cooked well but the sauce was kind sweet. We did choose spicy level 1, which was spicy enough for us. Then the dish I looked forward to - the viral and delish looking oozy Tteok. So much promise when it’s served to us and the sever cut it nicely and you hear the crackling and see the oozy mochi center but taste-wise quite disappointing. The oil taste is too strong and mildly unpleasant.

Dont get fooled by the good reviews as this restaurant give out free dishes for google reviews. The food is bad and with very small portion, even for their signature dishes. Their signature stir fry octopus is super tough and rubbery and the cabbage beneath it is not cooked well at all with many raw and hard stems. We also ordered beef bulgogi ($18) for our kids which beside the small portion has no beef at all, only abit of minced beef here and there. Cheesey corn ($15) is just one flat later on a small hot plate that is smaller than a corn cup from McDonald. Their side dishes are also crap, edamame is not fresh with black spots on them. I will never return ever again. You can find much better stir fry octopus in Singapore.

We had an enjoyable evening at Obongzip. Portions are massive! Three of us (big eaters) couldn't even finish a standard octopus set for two and we actually had to cancel our side order of fried rice. The mains’ food quality was excellent. Staff were friendly and moved at the efficiency of an F1 team. Our dog was warmly welcomed and they proactively rearranged the chairs to accommodate our dog’s stroller before we were even seated. Staff also served our orders to the table in a minute or two after we ordered via the ordering system. The outdoor seating is also windy and well-ventilated. Some points for Obongzip to consider: 1. While the grilled tteok was beautifully prepared, the fried exterior tasted of stale oil. Ensuring fresher oil during peak hours would make a big difference. 2. Reservations could be more consistent. While reservations for Friday evenings were blocked out via the online ordering system, we were surprised to see that many tables were reserved when we first entered. 3. There is a strong, unpleasant toilet smell inside the air-conditioned dining area. We were thankfully seated outdoors, but it was very noticeable when heading inside to pay. Despite these issues, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the outstanding service!

The restaurant had a rather unpleasant odour when we walked in. I'm not sure if it was from the fresh octopus or the water used to keep them, but it was quite noticeable. We ordered the two signature dishes we saw on social media. The chilli paste paired really well with both the octopus and pork, though I wish the pork slices were more tender. The banchan looked beautifully presented, but the taste was below average. The grilled tteok was pleasantly chewy and paired well with the honey. Good for sharing among 4 to 6 people. Overall, we enjoyed some elements of the dishes, but both signature dishes were a little too oily for our liking.

Smell of sewage .I thought it was because I was sitting outside. But just saw the reviews that people mentioned of the smell from inside. I've ordered sundubu and its one of the worst I've ever tasted. Side dishes were not nice at all. Fish cake was hard. Veg also hard and bland. They served me edamame but it was spoilt. Asked if I want bean sprout and it turned out to be just boiled with no seasoning. No apology was given. Kimchi was alright. Im surprised by the number of 5stars given. I probably didnt order the right dish. I also cant seem to find any reviews about sundubu and people ordered others mostly. I did not finish my food.

Restaurant smelled like sewage/toilet so we shifted tables to sit outside. Food was overall very bland, beansprout side was unseasoned so basically just boiled beansprout. We didn’t order any of their specialty/famous dishes so maybe that’s why but I would think twice before coming back. We ordered bulgogi soup, seafood pancake, steamed egg and rice balls. The seafood pancake was very good and egg was decent but the rest were disappointing. And yes we didn’t order anything spicy because my dining partner couldn’t have any so maybe their spicy dishes are better.
