If you’ve ever seen the IG-worthy neatly-stacked Baoer Kaya toast, this is the reality at Rochor outlet. Certainly lacking in aesthetics, although the kaya was pretty delicious, too bad the staff didn’t care much about assembling the kaya toast properly. The coffee was extremely watered down and tasted like nothing. Disappointing experience because I was actually looking forward to trying out this outlet as Balestier is out of the way for me. Will likely not return.

If I could choose to give negativity on the stars, I would not hesitate to award you 10 stars on yr atmosphere, service & food. Have u tried drinking a cup of teh that’s not even hot when I bought hot tea? Why not I suggest you provide raw eggs when you can’t even serve proper half cooked eggs? I really find it ridiculous to pay for toast that’s over toasted and hard. Reading all your past reviews, I’m so sad to see how much customers you have lost. Dear Bao Er owner, you have built an empire with your skills & good knowledge in running your Balestier outlet yet you killed yourself employing a team of stuck up chefs and employees that has tarnished the great reputation you have built. All I can say I’m sad to see all your efforts ruined.

Toasts were great. Crisp outside, and gooey inside. Wasn’t expect much from the fried beehoon but it turned out good too. There’s wok hey which is rare for economical beehoon. Same chili with HKM though, didn’t really match but ok. HKM was above average (3.5?) but they aren’t stingy with the ‘liao’. Overall, I’d go again but other reviews show there’s a chance of hit & miss.

Nainai Angela is the best ✨💙 I’ve been here twice and I was delighted to find beehoon here - Wokhei and that perfectly cooked egg, yums!!! The best part of this is actually their service. The first time I was here I ordered takeaway and forgot about it, but they kindly made me a new order. The second time I was here I requested for no taogay too late but they still made in happen for me. And all these were done with a warm smile, not a hint of irritation. Just for that I’ll be back for sure! Thank you 💙✨

Had a lovely meal at Bao Er Cafe at Middle Road! I ordered the kaya toast set with eggs and teh kosong, and everything was simple, comforting and satisfying. The toast was nicely done with a good balance of kaya and butter, and the eggs went perfectly with it. A really nice spot for a classic local breakfast or tea break. Cozy, fuss-free and enjoyable, will definitely come back again! 😊

I went to check out the hype on this Bao Er Cafe when i discovered that they now open earlier at 8am instead of 9am previously (since it fits my schedule better). The good thing was that it was also virtually empty. I ordered the Kaya Toast Set ($6.20) on the self order machine but i have to say that the ordering options are not very clear. I almost added a butter option (+$1) by accident because i thought it was asking because the set did not come with butter with the kaya in the toast when actually it did. The kaya is one of the better tasting ones that i have had. I liked the thick texture and the generous portion in the toast. At 8am plus in the morning, all the tourist crowds were downstairs at Killiney and Ya Kun so I much rather prefer coming here but they need to sort out their electrical supply. For the last 5-8 minutes of my breakfast, i was left sitting in the darkness because the electrical supply went off. The aircon stopped working as well so i finished my kopi quickly and left because it got too stuffy.

The staff insisted that this cup of black liquid is Yuan Yang Kosong. I DID NOT order Yuan Yang O Kosong Yan Yang Kosong should be brown with condensed milk inside, not black like this. He said I should have ordered Yuan Yang C instead if I want to have it brown, but no! Yuan Yang should be dark brown (with condensed milk) and Yuan Yang C should be light brown (with evaporated milk) Sorry first and last visit. Not going to spend my money here anymore. The environment is very hot and stuffy. Food is also so-so. Kaya toast is too sweet. Hokkien mee tastes burnt. I rather eat at hawker centre.

Been here twice in June. The prawn mee standard is the same as Balestier outlet- ordinary. The stock may be good, but the noodle lacks skill and experience to bring out the wok hei plus texture. The Balestier outlet’s taste is actually worse than the Fortune centre outlet because of inconsistency in cooking (range from ordinary to rancid oily tasting). The only consistently good hits here are the Kaya toast and black tea. When done by the right staff (shout out to Jessie), the Kaya toast is in a league of its own. Crispily toasted inside and out and slathered generously with Kaya. There is an option for Kaya add on. Again, the experience of this world Kaya toast depends on who is making it. To my knowledge, Jess is the only regular staff at the cafe who is passionate about making good tea and toast. I’ve had my order made by a non local staff and the toast was soggy and the butter less kaya toast had scanty Kaya spread. Atmosphere is eat and go. Peak hour crowds exist here. Off peak challenge is finding a clean table as not everyone returns their plate to the tray return station. It can also get smoky when they start rendering the fat from their pork lard to make lardons. But come for Kaya toast and black tea.
