First time visiting this place and I am blown away by the following dishes: 1. Prawn Style Chicken - simply amazing and crispy. Forgot to take photo and upload before eating it. 2. Mian Xian - love the texture and the flavour. Yummy. 3. Lala - soupy but nice. Not too spicy and to my taste. The claypot sea cucumber could be softer (subjective as I love softer texture) Service was not too bad. Prompt and there are live fishes and crabs in the shop. The downside is that it is not air conditioned so do sit near to a windy area or bring your own mini fan. Will return again (this time round must remember to bring a mini fan)

Our table of nine (six adults and three kids) had a thoroughly enjoyable dinner. The steamed crab was the standout for me. Perfectly cooked, the meat was firm, springy and succulent. The liquid from steaming, infused with Shao Xing wine, ginger and the crab’s natural briny sweetness, was simple but deeply satisfying. I’m generally not a chilli crab fan, so I left that to the others. The feedback around the table was that the sauce complemented rather than overwhelmed the crab, with the mantou doing an excellent job of soaking it all up. The deep-fried baby squid was exceptionally well executed. Crispy without being hard or chewy, and lightly coated so the squid’s natural flavour still came through. The accompanying pineapple added a welcome sweetness. The beef hor fun was straightforward but well prepared. Tender beef, decent wok hei, and no obvious faults. Likewise, the mee goreng was competently executed, with all the seafood cooked properly. If I had one critique, it leaned slightly ketchup-forward and was a touch sweeter than I prefer. The crab meat tofu was another highlight. The sauce was generously packed with crab meat, making every bite rich and satisfying. The 莴笋 was excellent — crunchy, fragrant with garlic and light chicken essence, yet fully cooked. The 虾酱鸡 was decent, though somewhat overshadowed by the stronger dishes on the table. Overall, a very satisfying meal with several dishes that would happily bring me back.

3.5/5 My recent visit to Ban Leong Wah Hoe was rather disappointing, especially since we came with fairly high expectations. To make matters worse, the service experience was incredibly frustrating. The waitress was pushy and repeatedly insisted on recommending the spring onion and ginger crabs despite us clearly wanting to order other flavours. This became an even more aggravating affair when the dish finally arrived; the gravy was genuinely poor as it lacked any depth or finesse and simply tasted flat and bland. While the seafood itself was fresh, the technical execution elsewhere also fell short. The flower crabs were completely wasted because the extremely mediocre gravy. Both the grouper and the clams arrived at an inadequate temperature. The seafood were fresh, but the dishes were not served hot enough, which made them taste rather lackluster. On the plus side, the fried prawn balls were large, crispy, and tasty. The mee goreng was also quite well done, reminiscent of the old-school Punggol-style mee goreng. The service pacing was another huge issue. Dishes were pushed out from the kitchen far too quickly, making the entire meal feel very rushed rather than enjoyable. It is difficult to justify returning when key elements of a good zi char restaurant, such as proper pacing, hot food, and balanced flavors, are handled with so little care.

First time trying this place and we made a reservation for 7pm on a Sunday. The restaurant was already very crowded when we arrived. We ordered the Black Pepper Crab, which was delicious with a rich, flavourful sauce. The Prawn Paste Chicken was also crispy and tasty. The Hotplate Tofu, Sweet & Sour Pork, Fu Rong Omelette, and Baby Kai Lan were decent but nothing particularly memorable. The Assam Fish Head was disappointing and is probably something you can skip. Overall, it’s an average zichar restaurant.

1st visit may’26 Nice zichar though not very cheap 1.3kg crab at 130. Bit the crab is really fresh as big as that’s their smallest size. The pepper crab is not bad though not my top preference The hotplate toufu is nice but abit spicy and also portion is good Veggie also nice The deer meat is quite tender but portion abit small for $20 Overall nice old school place 2nd visit The sweet and sour pork ribs are very tender and nice. Best no bone though it’s supposed to be pork rib The sambal Kang Kong is so so Also had the butter prawn but it’s the dried one while I was expecting wet version. You can taste the butter from the fried butter fritter which is quite nice but you can’t taste it from the prawns so that’s abit letdown. Though the prawns are fresh too

Reservation for more than 4pax I was told. Didn’t have crowd at 6pm on Saturday evening. Food was average and service was normal. Didnt like the hot plate tofu as there was only onions and no eggs. There are plenty of tiny crabs in the LaLa dish.

Came on a weekend evening around 630pm, already have large groups of diners feasting. Menu has multiple options, most famous for crabs! Can select Small medium and large size based on weight. Medium sized can feed 2-3 people! The black pepper one is damn shiok, black pepper coarsely ground, filling every single nook and cranny of the crab! Crab is very fresh and delicious! The noodles is very worth it, large portion able to feed 2-3 person although it is supposed to be one pax! Much seafood in it- prawn, quail egg, fish cakes, squid and even big slices of fish! Not overly seasoned nor soggy, really worth the price! Sizzling tofu was okay, normal egg tofu but the shrimp is huge and almost like more than ten pieces bouncy fresh big shrimp! Would definitely come back! Great for large group family gatherings!
