A great plate of old school chicken rice. I would recommend the roasted chicken over the steamed chicken. Their steam chicken is not the "with the gel in between the skin and meat" type. I ordered a roasted chicken drumstick 🍗 with the steamed chicken breasts. The rice is lightly fragrant and not overly oily, very good balanced. The accompanying soup is your old school light chicken broth. The chilli does packed a little spice, goes well with the meat and the rice. The ginger blend is watery. Overall, a good plate of old school chicken rice 🍚. Do not expect the pure steamed chicken experience like Tong Fatty Chicken Rice.

I grew up around Margaret Drive from Primary 4 to Secondary 4, so coming back here after more than 40 years was really a nostalgia trip for me. I came hoping to find the old school street food I used to remember, but honestly, it was quite disappointing. Tony Kee, established in 1969, is still around & known for its old school roast chicken rice. The chicken is marinated whole & deep fried, giving it a golden brown skin while the meat remains tender & juicy. The rice was decent, & the chili had a nice spicy garlic kick, but overall, the taste felt quite ordinary - just a simple, average plate of chicken rice. To be honest, there’s no real need to specially come to this hawker centre for good food anymore. Most of the good old stalls & flavours are gone.

Don't understand the hype, mid at best. Following a snaking line - I appreciate the prompt service with servers working like clockwork. Menu is simple - $4/5/6 with roast / steamed chicken. Rice was bad, in clumps but also hard. Rice was almost cold even, fell flat and the overall taste could easily be outclassed by other chicken rice stalls, even normal ones. Soup is a normal umami trip from an ajinomoto hit, nothing different. The steamed chicken - the best way I could describe it is that some parts were well seasoned, as if it was unevenly seasoned throughout. And even those good parts were at best, passable. Maybe this place runs on routine or lasting memories from old customers, but as a first time buyer at this stall; chicken rice is just poor. Definitely not meeting the hype. Portion of meat was decent though, if I could sing its praise in any way.

This stall has been around for a long time. Previously at Commonwealth Food Center, they are now located at tgw ground floor of the ‘new’ Margaret Drive Food Center. They lie signature item is their fried whole chicken, which chicken rice stalls term as roast chicken. They also have roast pork and char siew available. My go-to order is their chicken breast. You must ask for their special sauce which is house-made and it tastes like teriyaki sauce. It goes really well with the chicken and rice. Their ginger sauce is also good, alongside their chili sauce. There are usually long queues during lunch time. Highly recommended! 😋👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

This chicken rice stall is no hidden secret—the perpetually long queue, especially during lunch hours, speaks volumes of its popularity among regulars and curious newcomers alike. Offering both roasted and steamed chicken, each portion is consistently tender, succulent, and well-executed, with just the right balance of seasoning and moisture. While the rice could do with a touch more fragrance and richness, it serves its purpose as a neutral base, letting the other elements shine. The real standout, however, is the chilli sauce—undeniably the star of the show. Zesty, punchy, and with just the right amount of heat, it elevates the entire plate and leaves a lasting impression. Efficient service despite the crowds ensures that turnover is brisk, and the stall’s consistency makes it worth the wait. A dependable choice for a satisfying, classic local meal around Margaret Drive/Dawson area.

Located at Margaret Drive hawker centre. There's always long queue so be expected to wait 15-20 mins for your order. Ordered SGD$4 plate of roasted chicken rice. Pretty much they are generous of the meat portion! (Not the ones we see outside at coffee shop/food court so little meat at low prices) The meat is tender and the roasted meat skin gives a bit of slight crisp which I like! Only the rice I would prefer a bit more fragrant, less lumpy and warmer (rice a bit cold when served but still okay 😅) The dark soya sauce brings a hint of sweetness and not too salty. Good quality stuff. Chili is a bit spicy but pairs well the dish overall! Definitely will come back again when I am craving for chicken rice haha 😆

Tong Kee Chicken Rice (东记鸡饭) serves one of the best chicken rice I have ever eaten. The long queue, a testament to the quality of their food since 1969, is well worth the wait. I ordered the $6 portion of roasted chicken rice with add on roast pork and braised egg, total of $7.80. The portion size is super generous, featuring huge chunks of boneless chicken meat that are perfectly roasted. Each piece boasts a crisp skin while remaining tender and juicy inside. The rice is incredibly fragrant, with a delightful aroma that isn't overly oily, making each bite light yet flavorful, perfectly complementing the richness of the chicken. Despite the lengthy line, the queue moves relatively fast, thanks to the efficient staff. Tong Kee Chicken Rice has truly mastered the art of delivering quality food swiftly, making it a must-visit spot for any chicken rice aficionado.

Expect long queue and fortunately it moved quite fast. With 8 people ahead, it was about 10 minutes when we got our food. We paid $12.00 for a steamed chicken drumstick ,quarter of a roast chicken, an egg and 2 portion of rice. Rice was not oily however was a little hard. Could do with more chicken broth for a more softer and fragrant rice. Chicken was tender. Sauce for the egg was tasty with a distinct sweetness and would be a great accompaniment with plain white rice. Chilli sauce had a nice tanginess to it. Soup was not memorable. Overall a decent chicken rice.
