Tried the chicken rice at Katong Mei Wei Chicken Rice and it really feels like one of those old-school spots that focuses on hearty portions and comforting flavours. The chicken was tender and smooth, especially the white chicken which paired perfectly with the fragrant rice. The roasted version had a nice savoury glaze that made it even more satisfying. One thing that stood out was how generous they were with the free soup and free achar. The soup wasn’t just a simple clear broth; it was packed with ingredients like corn and radish, giving it a naturally sweet and comforting taste. The achar added a refreshing crunch with a nice balance of tangy and spicy flavours that helped cut through the richness of the chicken rice. The chilli also deserves a mention; spicy, punchy, and addictive without overpowering the chicken. Overall, a very satisfying and value-for-money chicken rice meal with comforting side dishes that make you want to come back again.

This was my go-to chicken rice back in the days when Counterstrike Lan Gaming was all the rage and Katong SC was our CS team's usual haunt. Now I fondly remember this being one of the best in the East. So has time diluted the taste of this establishment? Is it still as good as before? The answer is a resounding YES. Expensive too. This meal for 2 in my photos cost over $25. But it is damn worth it. The quantity and quality of both the white and roasted chicken is top tier, sauce, meat were still as good as I remembered. The Lotus Root Peanut soup was sublime too.

Returned after what must be at least a decade, and happy to say the chicken rice still tastes as good as I remembered 😋🐔🍚 Used to be one of my favourite spots back then, and the food remains very satisfying. The achar and soup were especially enjoyable and complemented the meal well 👍 Price is slightly on the high side, but considering the taste and quality, still worth it overall. The main downside was the cleanliness of the dining area. Several tables were dirty or stained, and there was noticeable litter on the floor that had not been swept. Definitely an area that could be improved. Overall, still a solid plate of chicken rice and a place worth revisiting for the food.

This is one of the best chicken rice in town with more than 50 years history . Started from a humble stall at the old National liabrary location where I use to patronise as a student, the lady boss today manages this popular stall in the east that saw 3 generations of loyal followers. The chicken sold has remain the same and the pickles provided goes well with the dish. Also the bowl of chicken soup served is pipping hot with cabbage slices. The condiments of good chillie, black sauce n ginger is the signature flavour of hainanese chicken rice.

Went out of my way to sample Auntie Pengs and Dona Manis and it was a pleasant suprise to come across Katong Delicious Chicken Rice! Ordered roasted chicken and I really liked the texture and the achar was definitely a plus. For the rice, I didn't mind it much because I really enjoyed the roasted chicken and the crunchy sliced cucumbers under it. I went there during lunchtime so it was packed and kinda chaotic but I got my order in speed time. No complaints there but of course if you dont like noise I suggest you go before or after lunch break. Def one of the top chicken rice for me in SG!

Lunchtime arrived, promising a welcome respite from the day's endeavours. A colleague suggested Katong Mei Wei Chicken Rice, a name I knew well from previous ventures to the Katong area. It had been a while since I last tasted their food, and the memory of their wonderful chicken rice had remained. What followed was a true feast. Our order quickly transformed into a colourful spread of culinary delights, glistening poached white chicken, succulent roasted chicken, and perfectly crisp roasted pork, all accompanied by vibrant stir fried bean sprouts, tender kai lan, and a refreshing jellyfish salad. Among the chicken offerings, it was the poached white chicken that truly captured our palates. The rice, fluffy and aromatic, paired perfectly with the chicken and a generous dollop of their homemade chilli sauce, a condiment far superior to the insipid, watered down versions one often encounters. What truly elevated the experience, however, was the generosity of the staff and distinctiveness of the achar. This was no ordinary side dish. The chunks of pickled vegetables were substantial, and tasted far different. One of my colleagues commented that it was a trip back to the childhood, they mentioned that the chicken rice brought a sense of nostalgia. The entire experience left us thoroughly sated, deeply impressed, and warmed by a touch of shared nostalgia.

One of the most expensive chicken rice out there. Ordered two portion at $15.10 plus small salted fish bean spourt for $6.30. Normal plate of chicken rice starts from $7.70. wow Chicken: good Achar: good Soup: excellent Bean spourt: great Condiments: great Amount for money: okay Chicken was mixed some tender some a bit tough but due to the amount of gravy it wasn't dry. Gravy also helps with taste of chicken as well. Achar came in big portion. Most vege that comes with chicken rice tbh. Nothing much beside it is not much processed nor chili added, quite thai style. Soup was great with the natural sweetness of the cabbage. Portion was huge and with boiled chicken. Bean spourt with salted fish taste unique but do stir it before taking your first bite due to the salted fish. Nevertheless the salted fish dust brings a savoury dimension to the cruchy douge. Chili was average chicken rice chili maybe on the milder side but it is definite a level up due to the garlic. Amount to the cost i feel it was okay. While the cost is much higher the achar and soup they gave is like a dish of its own. Although i am not sure if it is due to close to closing time or this is the usual amount.

CRAVEWORTHY Katong Mei Wei Chicken Rice is a delightful spot for anyone craving comforting, well-prepared chicken rice. The food quality stands out immediately—the chicken is tender and flavourful, and the rice is especially enjoyable. I love that it’s fragrant without being oily, making the meal feel satisfying yet light. Their chilli and sauces complement everything perfectly, adding a nice kick without overpowering the dish. The service is another highlight. The friendly uncle and aunty running the stall make every visit warm and welcoming. They work quickly and efficiently, and the neat, organised ordering system helps keep the queue moving smoothly. While the price is a bit higher compared to typical chicken rice stalls, the quality and experience make it well worth the extra cost.
