Weng Hua Yuan(Boneless) Hainanese Chicken Rice

Saw a YT said this is his top choice in SG. So I go give it a try. It’s just a neighbourhood standard chicken rice. Decent standard. Guess it’s just nostalgic for the locals staying nearby. Located in Old Airport Road Food Centre, Weng Hua Yuan(Boneless) Hainanese Chicken Rice is a dependable hawker stall for a classic chicken rice fix. The boneless chicken is neatly sliced, featuring tender, moist meat with a smooth layer of skin that gives a light, silky bite. Both steamed and roasted options are available—the roasted adds a slightly savoury edge. The rice is aromatic and well-seasoned, pairing nicely with the punchy garlic chilli and light soy drizzle. A bowl of comforting chicken soup completes the meal. Simple, affordable, and satisfying, it’s a solid go-to for everyday dining. 

Was looking for a chicken rice to try out at this hawker centre and found this to have very convincing reviews. However, after trying, I’m not in agreement with the collective feedback. Service was good and friendly. Stall was exceptionally clean for a hawker stall. Good to know that it is very well maintained and looked after. But perhaps, too much attention was paid on non-food matters. Rice - fluffy but lacks flavour. I see the bits of onion skin, panda leaves but can’t detect any real depth when I dug into the rice. The sauce that dressed the chicken meat didn’t help much either. The chicken, whilst still borderline tender, was also pretty much bland. Soup - you guessed it - bland. I don’t know, are they gunning for the prize of healthiest plate of chicken rice? For such cases, I depend heavily on the chilli to save the day. The chilli here has pretty strong sour notes and nothing much of everything else. Needless to say, it didn’t save the day. I feel truly letdown for a stall that charges $4 a plate and with an “old signboard”.

When we spotted the long line snaking from the Hainanese Chicken Rice stall 🐔🍚 at Old Airport Road Hawker Centre, we knew we were ono something good. We gladly joined the queue, trusting that the food would be worth the wait. As we stood there, chatting with fellow foodies, the mouthwatering aroma of chicken and rice filled the air, making our stomachs growl in anticipation. The bustling crowd was a clear sign that this stall knew how to deliver the goods!!! The owners were lovely and helped us with choosing the signature dish - thank you very much! ♥️

I think it's ok only, the chicken was just chicken. Even though it's chicken breast, it could have been juicier but it tasted dry. Two pieces of cucumber. Oiled sesame rice tasted like oiled sesame rice but this was just mid or medium quality. Maybe below average. The soup was also just maybe msg...couldn't really taste any deep underlying flavours, sorry. However the auntie was nice so I guess it's OK especially for the price you're paying - 4 for chicken rice, add .80 for the egg.

Located in the famous old airport road food Centre. Awesome fluffy rice with smooth & soft chicken. Has been patronising this stalls for many years. Always able to satisfy the whole family cravings for chicken rice. Stall owners of two generations, very friendly and always ready to serve. Must eat if you’re craving for chicken rice. Be ready to queue during dining peak hours. Ample of parking behind the food centre. Many other great tasting food in the same vicinity. Awesome Singapore Hawker Heritage!

Had lunch here. Steam drumstick with lu dan and chicken liver. No regrets. The ginger dip is awesome. Chicken liver moist and tender. Will be back soon.

Best chicken rice in OAR. Steamed chicken is really tender, chilli got kick, rice not too oily. Those lousy reviews below are confirm from detractors. Thumbs up.

Ordered a white chicken tail 鸡尾 portion at almost 3pm on a weekday after seeing the snaking queue at lunch time. Like a couple of the earlier outlier reviews, I too cannot fathom the high rating for the stall. The rice and soup were flavourless while the chicken and chilli are at best decent. For the first time, I didn’t finish the rice quickly like I usually do! There was also bad MSG after-effects for the rest of the day ;-)
