Five Star Kampung Chicken Rice & Kitchen

You can never really go wrong with this chicken rice. Personally, I prefer the white chicken over the roasted chicken. The Hainan rice is flavourful and every component is definitely above average. I just can’t find that one thing that really wows me. That said, this is definitely one of my top choices when I’m nearby and craving chicken rice. It’s also a place I’d bring someone who’s trying chicken rice for the first time because you really can’t go wrong here. Plus, you usually don’t have to queue for too long, there’s a proper air conditioned dining area, and the service is pretty fast. If I come alone I like to order their set with homemade tofu, their homemade tofu is quite nice. One thing to note: return the wet tissue if you don’t want to be charged for it!

1-Star Review Terrible service and a very disappointing experience. Once seated, we were given a QR code and told to order through it. However, the options on the QR menu are extremely limited. There was no option to order boneless thigh meat, despite this being a very common way to order chicken rice. We ordered the chicken anyway, only to receive a portion that was mostly bone, fat and skin with very little actual meat. We raised this with the staff, but instead of offering to replace the portion or even remove the bones, we were told that we should have ordered it at the counter. Then why provide a QR code and instruct customers to order through it? We certainly weren’t planning on scratching up our mouths trying to eat around chicken bones, so we had to order another portion. We specifically informed the staff this time that we did not want bones. Chicken rice has plenty of variables — breast, thigh, boneless, with/without skin, etc. If certain options aren’t available through the QR menu, they should either be listed clearly or customers should be told upfront to order at the counter. The whole experience was unnecessarily frustrating, and the lack of effort from the staff to resolve the issue made it even worse. For something as straightforward as chicken rice, this shouldn’t have been such a hassle.

A good place to bring overseas friends who want to try a variety of local food. They serve chicken rice and a selection of other familiar local favourites, so it’s easy to order a few dishes to share and try a bit of everything. They also have a nice selection of local desserts, which is a plus. Overall we enjoyed the food. The place is nice and comfortable. Service was ok overall, though a little more attentiveness and politeness would make the experience even better. Still a good casual spot for local food, especially when bringing overseas friends.

Air con place. We ordered both steamed and roasted chicken. Both were nice but i prefer roasted. Can choose white rice or chicken rice. Must add braised egg. They can choose single, double, 1/4, 1/2 or whole chicken. Free soup. They have other dishes like toufu, greens, seafood too! Crew are nice and friendly. They have 10%service fee and 9%GST. Can eat! Delicious! In my own opinion, better than Ti** Ti** chicken rice. Awesome!

Today we're eating at a 26-year-old chicken rice restaurant, passed down through two generations in Singapore – Five Star Hainanese Chicken Rice. This is my late-night eatery on the East Coast. They use free-range chicken, freshly cut daily, and offer several chicken rice set meals, including boneless chicken breast and skin-on chicken thigh meat, which I love. The chili sauce, ginger paste, and M-grade soy sauce are all unique. They also have a good selection of stir-fried dishes, including fresh vegetables and homemade tofu. Their homemade barley water is also delicious. There are three branches island-wide, and this one on the East Coast is open until 2 AM, perfect for late-night diners. Not a big shop, bigger portion is the zichar beside. Has lunch deal. Dabao their white and roast chicken with rice for $10.40. Portion is big for 1 pax, can be shared by 2. Roast meat added on is quite a lot but white chicken only has 4-5 small pieces. White chicken is tender and nice. kampong chicken has a more yellowish skin. Rice is flavourful and not mushy. Chilli is quite spicy and nice. Ginger paste has a sour tinge so quite refreshing and goes well with the white chicken. More famous for white. 1 pax rice stated as $7.20, without rice is $5+. Cdc accepted. Aunt didn't specifically tell me add on is how much, but only tell me the total with gst. Place is not crowded at all on 5.30pm weekday. Has other dishes like zichar as well. Pork belly looks good. Will try next time.

I stopped by Five Star Kampung Chicken Rice & Kitchen for dinner on a Sunday evening, and even though it was busy, the wait for a table was pretty short. It had been a few years since I last came here, and I was glad to find that the quality still holds up. A solid choice if you’re craving a familiar, reliable meal.
