Five Star Kampung Chicken Rice & Kitchen

The chicken is delicious; however, the short-haired lady at the reception who took the takeaway order was extremely rude. The service has declined significantly over the years. I ordered half a chicken with vegetables and specifically requested no MSG and no salt for the vegetables as they were meant to be shared with my baby. However, the receipt was printed as “less salt” instead. I politely asked if she could remind the chef that it should be no salt, not less salt. She responded rudely and raised her voice, repeatedly insisting that she had already keyed in NO SALT. It was only 11am and the place wasn’t crowded, so I’m not sure why she reacted so emotionally. A calm and polite response, or simply informing the chef, would have been sufficient.

I have been a loyal customer here for over 25 years, but the service has really declined. The cashier took my order halfway, then stopped to answer a phone call and continued taking orders from that call instead. When I asked to speak with the manager, a young Malaysian lady. She showed me a WhatsApp message from her boss instructing that phone orders are now the top priority, as they had received complaints about unanswered calls. Does this mean walk-in customers, who make the effort to come down in person, are now considered less important? After 25 years of loyal support, this experience was truly disappointing and disheartening.

A good crowd during weekday lunch. Had to wait a while to get seats. Nice spice to the chili sauce. A good chicken rice cannot do without a good sauce in my opinion. This one pass the test. I also put out some of the heat with their homemade lemongrass drink which was very thirst quenching. They have other cooked dishes besides chicken rice. We tried the salted egg pork, kailan and also hometown tofu. My favorite out of the 2 has to be the hometown tofu. Soft tofu that is slathered in a tasty sticky sauce with minced meat bits. Air-conditioned dining area made it very comfortable to dine during the mid day heat.

It's trash, don't waste time coming, taste no good anymore. Gone are the days where Five Star Chicken rice can be representing Singapore at all. Look the picture, does it even seem appetising?

Tried a few dishes here recently. The kampung chicken was tender and paired nicely with the rice. The creamy curry pork went well with rice, while the broccoli with braised baby abalone added a lighter touch. The signature hometown tofu was soft inside with a nice flavour.

I ordered a set meal for lunch. Though it wasn't too crowded, it still takes a while before the food was ready. The set meal was a good choice for me as I could have a little of vegetables, tofu, accompanied with the chicken and rice. The rice texture was to my liking. Also...I liked that the utensils were in covered boxes! Overall, the shop looks quite clean.

Flavour is good. Well seasoned chicken and tenderness is there, not dry. However there isn't much meat Soup was pretty standard, decent flavour Rice was done well also Basically a good standard for chicken rice But the price is exorbitant. $10 for only chicken for 1 pax? With no rice included?!?!?! Insane
