Long Bar

Visited the iconic Long Bar, famous for the Singapore Sling. The atmosphere inside is absolutely शानदार — truly one of a kind. I really enjoyed the unique tradition of throwing peanut shells on the floor, which added to the fun and authenticity of the experience. We ordered the Original Singapore Sling and the Raffles 1915 Gin Sling, both of which were excellent. The bar was very busy, and unfortunately our drinks took more than 20 minutes to arrive. It seemed like the order might have been forgotten, but once the waiter noticed, he quickly took care of it. Despite that small issue, the incredible ambiance completely made up for it. Overall, a very satisfying experience and definitely worth visiting.

The Long Bar at Raffles — a place where history goes to be monetized. The Singapore Sling was textbook. Literally. Nothing more, nothing less. You get exactly what the laminated recipe card promises — for SGD 44. A museum piece served in a glass, priced like a craft cocktail, executed like neither. The peanuts deserve a special mention: the smallest specimens I've ever encountered in Asia. Having spent time in China where peanuts actually have presence and flavor, these felt like an afterthought. Symbolic, much like the rest of the experience. Service was the real revelation. I've had warmer interactions at a German Kantine. Staff moved through the room with the enthusiasm of people who know the tips come regardless. No eye contact, no anticipation, no craft — just volume processing. Conveyor belt hospitality in a heritage setting. The crowd matched the energy. Flipflops, tank tops, swim trunks — in a venue that theoretically enforces a dress code. Raffles has apparently decided that the Long Bar's reputation is strong enough to survive on name alone, no standards required. The marble floors deserve better than being a backdrop for beach attire. The tradition of throwing peanut shells on the floor is charming in theory. In practice, it's the only thing distinguishing this from any airport lounge bar charging the same price with better service. If you want to say you've been — go. If you want an actual cocktail experience in Singapore, walk to the Manhattan Bar at the Conrad Orchard. Better cocktails, better atmosphere, better service — for SGD 36. 2/5 — One star for history, one for the textbook Sling. The rest stayed at the door with the dress code.

Had a great time here. Yes, the Singapore Sling is expensive, but if you’re prepared for that, the ambience and service transport you to a time long gone. Throwing the peanut shells on the floor is a must, but it feels so terribly disrespectful and wrong. Several peanuts later, I finally hurled one onto the floor, and then couldn’t stop looking around, expecting to be told off for being naughty. The Little India refresher was also rather delightful.

Birth place of the Singapore Sling, a visit here is a must experience for a stay in Singapore! Midweek there was a very short wait to get in, sat at the bar have a great view of the cocktails being made - including the fascinating hand-cranked cocktail shaker. Bar staff very friendly, good to have a chat with them between drinks. Good range of the menu, but obviously their signature Singapore Sling is recommended - may be over S$40 but worth it for being here. Tradition of throwing the peanut shells onto the floor is novel but also adds to it, definitely unique!

A fab time spent in The Long Bar in Raffles Hotel. Arrived at about 3.30 pm on a Friday and only had to wait 25 minutes in the queue to be seated and served (compared to 1 1/2 hours earlier in the week according to friends when they visited!). Whilst waiting in the queue the staff came out with cold tea for anyone wanting a free cool drink. We had a bar seat which was comfortable. Happily ate from the bag of nuts dropping the cases on the floor with all the other discarded cases. The Singapore Sling was lovely- way better than I was expecting. I had 2 my friend had 1 plus a non alcoholic cocktail. Total bill £110 for 4 drinks. Price was higher than London prices for a cocktail but a must when in Singapore!

My wife and I stopped into Long Bar at the end of the night since we did not have a reservation to see if we could get a Singapore Sling and we were able to walk right in (Granted this was a weekday an hour before closing). I would recommend getting a reservation as this place gets packed later in the evening. Since this was the origin of the Singapore Sling we decided we had to give it a try. The hostess sat us at a table in the middle of the restaurant where we had a clear view of the bar where they prepare the cocktails. I thought it was unique that the bar is known for having peanuts on the table and you just shuck the shells onto the floor. The drinks here are delicious but just make sure you have a fat wallet if you decide to order a handful of drinks here. This is our review of the two drinks we ordered:

Let's face it, it's a tourist trap and one I had to do. The Long Bar is famous for being the place that first created the Singapore Sling. The queue at 11.30am on a weekday, was an hour long and partially in full sun with out seating for most part. The ctazy over priced cocktail was $44 SGD, whilst the original receipe, was not the best I've tasted. You are unable to.buy any food. The feeling wasn't very welcoming, it was more like staff were rushing you especially if you declined ordering more drinks, even though you hadn't finished your first round. They would make a fortune in one day, as people piled in and out just to try the famous cocktail, of which tables were full of.

For the experience I came to have I give 5 stars. I wanted a Singapore Sling, I got it out was good. I wanted a Plum Mojito, I got it and loved it. I wanted to throw peanuts on the floor and I did that. I forgot the hosts name but he was born in 1986,I know that because he recognized my Buddha pendant and thought my thai dragon pendant was a good compliment to it. He and the other host did great moving the line and getting people in without a long wait. I implore you to wait even if the line looks long, it will move fast. If you can also look around and read the history. Oh and the peanuts are really really good! I feel sorry for whoever cleans at night. 😃 😀 😄
