Gim Tim Restaurant/锦珍酒楼 - Established in 1975, this old school Chinese restaurant is now run by the third generation of the founding family & is well known for its nostalgic Hokkien & Cantonese cuisine. Steamed Dragon Tiger Grouper with Golden Garlic & Olive Vegetables /金蒜榄菜蒸龙虎斑 - Instead of the usual Hong Kong style soy sauce steamed fish, Gim Tim puts its own spin on the dish by topping the Dragon Tiger Grouper/龙虎斑 with minced garlic, & Teochew preserved olive vegetables/榄菜. The fish had a silky smooth texture with firm, naturally sweet flesh. The garlic & olive vegetables added a savoury punch, making it richer & more flavourful than the classic Cantonese version without overpowering the freshness of the fish. Poached Rice with Freshwater Giant Prawns in Rich Prawn Broth/大头虾汤泡饭 - The fun starts at the table, where the staff pours crispy fried rice puffs into the steaming prawn broth. The aroma instantly whetted my appetite. The freshwater giant prawns/罗氏沼虾(淡水大头虾) were generously sized & split in half, making the sweet, springy meat easy to remove from the shell. The broth was rich, packed with prawn umami, & lightly infused with fragrant Chinese yellow rice wine/花雕酒, giving it extra depth. I especially enjoyed the contrast between the soft, broth soaked rice & the remaining crispy rice puffs - it made every spoonful incredibly satisfying. Overall, the food was well prepared with quality ingredients & good presentation. Every dish was executed to a comfortably above average standard, making it another enjoyable gathering over good old school Chinese cuisine.

Had a really enjoyable family meal at Gim Tim Restaurant recently for their Parents’ Day Set Menu, and it turned out to be a great spot for a meaningful gathering with the parents. Gim Tim is a family-run Hokkien restaurant with a long history dating back to 1989, now managed by the second generation. You can tell the dishes are rooted in traditional recipes and prepared with care — comforting, old-school flavours that many families would appreciate. We tried the $608++ Parents’ Day Set Menu (8–10 pax), which included: ~ Lobster Combination Platter ~ Shark’s Fin Soup with Crab Meat & Cordyceps Flower ~ Roasted Duck with Passionfruit Sauce ~ Steamed Dragon Tiger Grouper with Chye Poh ~ Braised Assorted Sea Treasure with Greens ~ Poached Prawns with Ginseng & Wolfberries ~ Fried Mee Sua ~ Yam Paste with Ginkgo Nut & Coconut Cream The portions were generous and suitable for bigger family gatherings or multi-generational dining. The roasted duck was especially memorable with the passionfruit sauce, and the yam paste dessert ended the meal nicely. Another plus point is the convenience — there’s easy parking and it’s only about a 7-minute sheltered walk from Mayflower MRT. Do note PAssion Card members can also enjoy 10% off the promo set menu on weekdays, which is a nice bonus. Overall, a warm and comfortable place for celebrating occasions like Mother’s Day or Father’s Day with family.

Came to try their newly launched weekday multi-course lunch set at just $58++ . We started strong with a trio of fresh golden prawn, silky scallop with egg white & black truffle, and a tangy Thai-style abalone. Each bite is simply mouthwatering! Then came a generous serving of rich, collagen-packed shark’s fin soup with fish lips bubbling in a stone pot. Luxurious and comforting at the same time. For mains, take your pick on either a juicy pork chop with chefs special sauce… or a crispy grouper fillet with a tangy passionfruit kick. And just when your belly is filled up, they serve a scallop fried rice with crisp addictive sakura shrimps that makes you clean up the bowl! We ended light with chilled osmanthus jelly, a refreshing floral flavour that lingers. If your weekday lunches have been sad desk salads… it’s time for this no-brainer glow-up at Gim Tim. A Family-run restaurant with decades of recipes, that definitely delivered.

Very unfriendly and unprofessional service from the manager, Haizhen. From the initial reservation and pre-order discussion to the actual event day, the entire experience was disappointing. I called in advance this year to highlight that it was a birthday dinner and specifically requested that dishes be served course by course. I also clearly outlined the preferred sequence, which was fairly standard. However, on the day itself, the sequence was completely disregarded. At one time, our table has the suckling pig, fish and longevity noodles all at the same time where last 2 dishes should be enjoyed hot—making the experience very unpleasant and uncomfortable. When I expressed my frustration, it felt like we were being rushed through the meal. She then mentioned she could ask the kitchen to slow down. Following that, there was a 20 minute gap with no dishes served. Poor presentation of dishes, particularly the vegetarian items and the unevenly chopped suckling pig. She was defensive and insisted that this was how the dishes are served.. We had four tables, and for three of them, the suckling pig were poorly presented in messy, uneven pieces. On a separate note regarding the food: the fish was fresh and well-prepared. However, the prawns in the lobster salad were overly oily, with visible oil on the tempura. The fish maw soup was overly starchy with a rough texture. The longevity noodles were soggy and lacked appealing color. The vegetarian dish also looked unappetizing. Overall, a very disappointing experience, especially given the prior communication. Not recommended for happy event.

Delicious Teochew/Canto food! Pekin duck was great. Never had such crunchy and delicious cucumbers before. Duck meat was tender yet had bite. Soon Hock was really fresh and crispy too. Many other dishes not pictured were great - their bing pan, asparagus with scallops, salted egg prawn + xiao Bai cai and the OG Ee fu noodles. Bring your parents and grandparents here!! Best to come on a weekday as you'd be able to sit indoors. Weekends would be packed I believe.

A well known name in the catering scene with a loyal following, but this visit felt uneven. The standout was undoubtedly the crispy roast chicken. Beautifully rendered skin with a delicate crackle, giving way to tender, juicy meat beneath. Simple, well-executed, and easily the best dish of the meal. Though notably, we had to remind the staff for the all-important pepper salt. The rest of the spread didn’t quite reach the same heights. Flavours across several dishes felt muted and under seasoned, lacking the depth and punch you’d expect from a kitchen with such history. Execution was competent, but ultimately unmemorable. The sakura prawn scallop fried rice lacked wok hei, the wasabi prawns came cloaked in a thick, tasteless crust with a bland, almost luminous green sauce drizzled on as an afterthought, and the golden dragon chicken’s panko coating distracted from the squid paste rather than enhancing it. Service was efficient despite the bustle. White table linen and an old-school banquet setting lend a certain nostalgic charm. Still a dependable option for group catering.

Had dinner here on the 10th Day of CNY with some friends. We ordered the $688 Set Dinner for 10 person although our group only have 7 pax. On the whole, the food was Ok but we were disappointed with 1) The steamed fish which was grossly underside and hardly enough go round for 7 pax. 2) The Crab Meat fried Noodles served was without Crab Meat. After our feedback to the captain/manager, he went through the Noodles with a pair of Chopsticks and managed to pickup a piece of what he claimed was Crab Meat and we all just laugh as we find it real hilarious. The captain/manager then brought back the plate of Noodles to the Kitchen and later came back with the plate of Noodles with a few pieces of add-on Crab meat. Our overall dinning experience here is very disappointing
