The restaurant has a cosy and quiet vibe, which I appreciated. The staff were warm and welcoming too—they greeted us with a smile when we walked in and even served sparkling water automatically, which was a nice touch. As for the food, it was honestly a bit hit or miss. The beef rendang was one of the better dishes: the beef was nicely braised until tender, and the rendang sauce was rich, aromatic, and packed with flavour. The East Coast platter, though, was quite disappointing. The satays were inconsistent—some were decent, but a few were pretty tough. The oysters were a little too salty, possibly because some seawater or salt residue wasn’t washed off properly. The mantou also missed the mark for me: they were on the tougher side, lacking that crisp exterior while not being fluffy enough inside. The prawns were the most forgettable part of the platter, and I honestly couldn’t really tell what sauce they were cooked in. The kueh pie tee was decent enough—nothing particularly memorable, but no major complaints either. The local coffee was unfortunately pretty meh. It didn’t taste like how local coffee should, and there was a slightly funky note to it that felt off. I’d probably skip that next time. Overall, they clearly can make some good Nyonya dishes, but it really depends on what you order. Personally, I probably wouldn’t return, though I’d still say it’s worth trying once.

Tried their Baba’s Set Lunch ($15++ per pax) during their promotion period till 31 March 2026, and I think it’s quite a solid deal especially for the Katong area and hotel setting! The restaurant sits within Hotel Indigo, and the vibes are really nice! Great Service, and big bright windows for natural sunlight to come in, modern Peranakan touches, and it almost feels like a stylish heritage bar-restaurant hybrid. Very comfortable for a weekday lunch. The set lunch (available daily 11:30am–3:00pm, promo till 31 March 2026) comes with: 🍲 Soup of the Day – The rice wine flavour was quite strong, so something to note if you're sensitive to that. The chicken was rolled into a log and sliced, and was tender and well-cooked. 🥬 Chap Chye – Braised long enough to draw out the natural sweetness of the cabbage, with dried shrimp giving it savoury depth. Comforting and homely. 🦋 Blue Pea Jasmine Rice with sambal – The sambal was properly spicy and one of my favourite components. 🥒 Nyonya Achar – Crunchy, slightly sour, and great for balancing the richer dishes. 🍗 Ayam Buah Keluak – The chicken was more tender than I expected. The buah keluak sauce had that earthy, deep, slightly bitter and nutty aroma that defines the dish. The garlic confit on top was soft and fragrant. For the main options (you choose one): 🥩 Beef Cheek Rendang – Very tender and gelatinous, deeply spiced and rich. Pairs very well with rice. 🐟 Assam Curry Seabass – Fish portion slightly small, but the assam gravy had a pleasant pineapple tartness and came with a generous amount of vegetables. 🦐 Asian Curry Tiger Prawn (+$3++) – The prawns were huge, and the curry had a strong turmeric-forward aroma. The mains featured in this set lunch will also continue to be available à la carte after the promotion ends, so you can still order them even beyond 31 March 2026. Overall, for $15++ in this area, I find it quite reasonable given the ambience and variety. Portions are moderate but satisfying for lunch!

Dear Baba Chew, I am writing to request for a $8.40 refund on a matter of principality. I wanted to purchase a lunch set for 2 at $23++. However, I realised post payment that I was charged $36 for 2x 1 lunch set. Your UX/UI on the site was misleading - there was absolutely no option to buy the $23 lunch set for 2. Please refer to the screenshots of your site below. There were only options to choose the number of guests and it leads you to purchase. Under Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act(CPFTA) and Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act, POFMA, this isn’t allowed. Whether it is a genuine error or an act of deception, I hope you rectify this. Also, there was poop on the toilet seat - as your restaurant rides under the premium tag of Indigo, this is not acceptable. PS - your manager onsite apologised for the error but the onus is on corporate.

A very disappointing experience! We ordered the pineapple prawn curry and beef cheek rendang. The beef cheek was soft and tender but the rendang itself was lacking in fragrance. The prawn curry had unusual vegetables (baby potatoes and Brussel sprouts) that were very undercooked; out of the 3 prawns, 2 of them were clearly not fresh because of their mushy texture. The blue pea rice was dry and cold, sambal and achar all tasted stale, as if they were store bought. For $75, these dishes were really bad. Finally, the restaurant was barely 30% filled when we arrived, and the waiters just pretended not to see us, we had to see ourselves in and find our own spot: that’s very strange. Will not come back again.

This place is all about presentation, not quality. The food looks nice on display, but it’s not meant for consuming. We ordered 10 dishes and every single one failed to meet basic food standards: 1.Chilli crab cake tasted like tomato sauce with egg. 2.Assam halibut risotto was basically plain porridge. 3.Assam curry seabass was just fried fish with no curry taste, plus hard, unripe brinjal. 4.Blue pea jasmine rice was hard, dry, and cheap-tasting. 5. Even the drinks were disappointing — Coke Zero was served in a glass with no can, and it wasn’t even fizzy. Extremely disappointing — save your money.

Extremely disappointing experience with Babachew’s mooncake preorder. I placed my order via email, but they completely ignored it for over 7 days until I had to send a chaser. Only then did they bother to acknowledge and “confirm” my order. Fast forward 13 days later, when I asked for an order number and collection details, I was told vaguely that the mooncake handbag boxes were sold out and only a “jewel box” version was left. No apology for: • Ignoring my initial email • The fact that the handbag boxes were sold out despite my confirmed preorder On top of that, they didn’t provide any basic details about this so-called “jewel box” — no price, no colours, no photos, nothing. Just vague, unhelpful responses. Very disappointed in my preorder experience with Babachews.

I had a very disappointing experience at Baba Chews. Customer service was practically non-existent — staff seemed inattentive and disinterested, making the whole dining experience unpleasant from the start. Cleanliness was passable (3/5), but definitely not spotless. Presentation of the food was poor (1/5) — the dishes looked rushed and unappealing. Unfortunately, the taste didn’t make up for it either (2/5); flavours were underwhelming and lacked depth. The steak was served raw, and the risotto was uncooked and grainy — both completely inedible. For the prices charged, I expected much better. I won’t be returning.

Initially saw someone recommending as a must try Peranakan food place in Singapore. But turns out to be more Fusion Peranakan i would say, not the authentic authentic kind. But food was pretty decent for us still and since their options were a mixture of asian, western and Peranakan cuisines, we went ahead to tried what they recommend. Wanted to try their Ayam Buah Keluak but service crew suggested is not that authentic and recommend us to try the Asam fish head which turns out great 👍🏻 other of the dishes was pretty decent for us as well ! Not the best but still good. Cheers !
