42 Pasta is the Answer

5 September 2026: First time trying out 42 Pasta is the Answer and my first thought was…why don’t they name their restaurant “The Pastabilities”?? Anyways, the pasta of the day was called Malloreddus, served with a creamy sauce with sausage and mushrooms. It had a unique savoury taste and I enjoyed the texture of the pasta very much. For sides, we got the bruschetta. The bread was really fresh and crispy. We also ordered the roasted pork & Waldorf salad which was YUMMY hehe. One thing I would say that they can work on is their service. I think the waitstaff can afford to be clearer and more professional with the way they speak. I was put in a confusing situation because when I came on time for my reservation (even early!), the waitress had told me that they only have one pasta left. I was confused and asked her…do you mean you only have one option? (Thinking that she was telling me about the restaurant concept of only serving one pasta per day- which I already knew about) To my surprise, she told me no, they only had one serving of pasta left. I was kinda shocked and confused cause we had booked this reservation months in advance. Later on, she came to tell us that they have 2 portions now. I was confused cause we had 3 pax, so how were we supposed to have our dinner? Later I asked her, so how can we solve this. She told me oh dont worry we can just make more pasta. I was EVEN MORE CONFUSED and assumed it would take very long since such a big deal was made out of it. Then she said…yeah it’ll take 5-10 minutes. I was really just so confused cause why did you need to tell me all of this and just confuse me…when there were actually enough portions for all of us. 42 Pasta is the Answer- your dishes are immaculate!!! But please!!! Train your staff 😭😭😭

I had to make reservation more than a month before because I had tried to do walk-in on two separate occasions and they were full. They only serve one type of pasta (pasta of the day) and you may choose to have it in a set at $42 with bruschetta, cheesecake, their signature salad and glass of wine. The dishes are also available à la carte. Portions are small, but at the price point it makes sense. I really enjoyed the bruschetta and cheesecake.

We had to make a reservation 2 months in advance to get a table, so by the time the day came around, we were filled with anticipation. The menu is small, only a pasta of the day, a few appetizers, a salad and dessert. You have to wait for your food, even though there are only 6-7 tables, as there is only the chef and 1 server. However, it was entirely worth it. The pasta is delicious, super freshly made, and not heavy on the palate at all. We had strozzapreti with salmon and torched ginger, it is not a huge portion, but very satisfying and reasonable at $15. The bruschetta was simple but very delicious, definitely worth trying. We will be back…. once we get a table ! Thank you for the delicious meal !

Everything was nice - and that's about it. The pasta had a very nice texture, and you can tell the effort that went into the sauce, roasted tomatos and broccolini. The potatoes cheesy bites were good and reasonably priced. The salad and the basque cheesecake were also... Nice. The challenging thing for me to reconcile is the meal took about 1.5 hours from start to finish, with a long wait time between each course. And with the one month reservation time, which I do respect, I did wish there was more depth of flavour in everything - the pasta sauce, the Waldorf salad, the prochetta. Taste is subjective and I like their concept and effort, so I feel like 4 stars is very fair. One thing that I did not factor into my rating is as follows: I do recommend for them to consider working on their service recovery. Today, they had an issue with a customer when they gave away the customer's table even thought they had a booking. The customer got very agitated, and I felt that they could have considered some form of resolution to deescalate the situation. While yes, the restaurant did made a mistake, which justifies frustration, the displeased customer actually made me and my lunch companion really uncomfortable as well. We didn't mind sharing a table, but the displeased customer seemed awful mad that they had to share a table with us, even moving their chair away from us, saying they don't like sitting next to strangers within earshot of us and every other customer (Not sure what I did, but hey). I felt that the restaurant could do something to address the situation with the displeased customer to deescalate. And also since it affected other customers maybe offer an apologetic explanation or a free drink or just something... it's not for the free items, but more of a gesture to show they were sorry for the experience, instead of just turning a blind eye. I hope this restaurant does well, and takes on the input to improve further.

Second time here and an even better experience this time. We found out it was named after Douglas Adams which means the owner has solved the true question of life. This is really one of the coziest places to dine at and the mystery element is great. We had alla boscaiola pasta today. It was so delicious. The prices are so affordable as well and you are able to have full view of the kitchen, so it’s a rather close setting. Overall I really preferred this compared to the first time as we had previously gotten a vegan styled pasta. Today’s was a lot more enriched by red meat, and it left me feeling hungry for more in the months to come. Highly recommend.

A very cosy place to have your tasty pasta of the day and other side dishes. Today I had the honour of trying out their freshly hand-made Strascinati which is a traditional southern Italian, eggless hand-shaped pasta from Puglia and Basilicata resembling larger, flatter orecchiette. Its name means "dragged", referring to the technique of dragging pieces of dough across a wooden board. Very tasty chewy pasta paired with tender pork meat ball covered in savoury sauce with shredded pork meat. Awesome. The bruschetta with cream cheese is crunchy and soft. Every bite will make you smile. Make sure to make reservations before heading down to avoid disappointment. Most of the time the restaurant is fully booked.

We visited on a Saturday night, 15 mins before closing time and they were kind enough to seat us. We got lucky that they still had some pasta left! The bruschetta was refreshing with the tomatoes and the siew yoke salad was also tasty! Love the omakase pasta menu and sadly was served pumpkins ( I am meat person but it was still delicious!!) Everything was great but the yuzu vinegar was standard. Heartfelt thanks to the chef who allowed us to finish the desert while they were already closing up/ cleaning up. They only have around 5-6 tables which can seat up to 20-24 pax.

42 Pasta Is The Answer proves that you don’t need a fancy restaurant to serve exceptional food. It feels like a pasta omakase, where every pasta reflects the chef’s passion, creativity, and dedication to his craft. Pasta is cooked perfectly, with bold yet balanced flavours and quality ingredients that let the dish speak for itself. The sides are equally delicious and round out the meal beautifully. What makes this place truly memorable is the people behind it. The owner and team are incredibly warm, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. If you appreciate honest food made with heart, this is a place that deserves your support. Great pasta, great people!
