Shu Bakery

As a huge fan of Chu & Co, I was really excited to try Shu Bakery but sadly, left disappointed. Firstly, portions were too small for the price point and we felt like the food tasted just okay. The Shu & Chu toast in particular felt way overpriced for what it was. It also took a long time for the food to be served and then we realised they completely forgot one of the pastries we had ordered from the counter. When it finally came, it was not warmed up even though there was a toaster oven right next to the cashier and we saw her warming up other pastries, so it was cold and hard. We saw lots of tables ordering the Hojicha Yuzu, which looked really good, but the cake was lacking in taste and we could not taste the hojicha at all, while the yuzu was too sour and overpowering (we actually preferred the cake without the yuzu) I’m sure these are just teething problems but somehow the taste and value of the food just doesn’t match up with what we’ve experienced at Chu & Co. The cafe was also really crowded so it was very loud and we could hardly hear each other. One thing that did impress us was how the service staff brought out small cups of orange juice for those waiting in the queue. It was a nice & kind gesture, especially when it was so hot outside! Overall, I would stick to Chu & Co and would rather endure the heat of sitting outdoors for the quality of the bakes and the quieter, more serene atmosphere there!

A new cafe with a cozy lovely vibes ✨every table is decorated with different types of vases and fresh flowers. Only managed to try their drinks: Latte (7/10) quite normal coffee. Ayurveda golden latte (7/10) it’s a sweetened latte with turmeric, black pepper, ginger, cinnamon, and coconut oil. Not much of a strong flavour, worth a try. Right when you enter, the pastry bar is on your right hand side for you to order and pay. It’d be better to have some crowd-control (or QR code order) as it gets cramped up at this tight corner. The food presentations look decent, would come back again to taste the menu. Keep it up Shu Bakery! 🧁

🟥 Shu Bakery Space@Kovan 9 Yio Chu Kang Road, #01-54 🟥 Location = 🟥 This newly opened cafe is situated at a row of shops below a block of condominium flats. ➖️ Nearby is Yio Chu Kang stadium, and opposite are Kovan Road and Highland Road.➖️ I am very familiar with this area, as my elder sis lives nearby here. 🟦 Decor / Ambience *********************** 🟦 The interior features an industrial-chic aesthetic with polished concrete floors and minimalist furniture. Warm lighting and wooden accents create a cosy ambience. 🟦 The facade of the cafe is a lovely deep red-maroon framed window-glass exterior entrance. 🟨 Food / Dine-in ___________________ 🟨 Lemon Summer Berries Cake / SGD7 🟨Hot Cafe Latte/ SGD5.50 🟨 The delicious lemon berry cake was moist, buttery and had a strong lemon flavour. ➖️ I requested for a single shot of espresso for my hot cafe latte, and the coffee milk that came was creamy and low in bitterness. ✔️ Very good quality pastries and coffee. 🟫 Service = Whether it is dine-in or takeaway, you need to queue up at cashier's counter and order your food. I paid via credit card. 🟫 After you order, the staff will bring you to your seat, and you sit there and wait for your food. 🩷 As this cafe is new, it is very popular with many patrons there on a weekday afternoon. ▪︎ 13th May 2026 Wed.

What I ordered: 1. Iced Black - very normal. Couldn’t really taste the coffee notes 2. Duck Rillette - The ricotta cheese is very creamy, not bad. This is my first time having mashed duck. Idk why but it tastes more like Tuna Mayo. Hmm not a big fan of the taste but nice presentation. 3. Maple Pecan Carrot Cake - The cream cheese has hints of maple flavour. This dessert is prob my fav among everything I’ve ordered. Not too sure if this is a daily item or on rotation as I ordered from the bakes shelves. Total cost = $34.65

Nice looking cafe, but extremely average food and bakes. Flavors of the food were flat, and lacked differing flavor and consistency. For eg the duck rillette toast - portion of the toast were firstly so small, and the rillette didnt feel the star of the plat. Was very shy and hidden amidst all the greens which seemed to be too much compared to the rest. We ordered: Sides - - Chicken Salad - Poached Shrimp Salad Mains - - Duck Rillette Toast - Kombu Maitake Toast (not pictured) Bakes - - Peanut butter and jam danish - Banana Caramel danish

Pros: Food was yummy, serving portion was decent. Their menu focuses on bread and toast mains. Beverages was also good (White Coffee and Matcha). Cons: Quite limited seating with a long common table at the side. Had to wait a while for tables to be available. Chances are you might need to share table (which is honestly fine). Air con was a little weak though on the Saturday we visited, probably due to the full capacity of the Cafe.

Honestly felt a little overrated for me 😅 The space and vibe were nice, but the food felt like just atas sweet spreads and savoury toppings on toast. Was also a little disappointed that the breads couldn’t be ordered separately for dine-in and were only available for takeaway. Decent to try once, but probably not enough for me to go back a second time.

I really wanted to like this place because it’s nearby plus the interior is so lovely. Yet their coffee tastes burnt, and the bread my friend got was burnt as well. I do think they can improve overtime — just teething problems. There’s a couple of other bakeries in that same stretch so there’s definitely impetus to improve.
