Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice

Unlike the name of the restaurant, Beach Road scissor-cut curry rice is located on Jalan Besar, Singapore. It's a 8 minute walking distance from City Square Mall. It's 2 units of shophouse connected in the center through a door, with the food and cashier area on the corner shophouse and a simple dining setting on the other side. We ordered by pointing out what we saw on the food display. Chicken katsu, pork belly, pork ribs, eggs, and many more. After selecting all the toppings, they poured a generous amount of curry sauce to cover them all up. It's one of the best meal we had in Singapore. Highly recommended!

This is a popular curry rice stall near Jalan Besar/ Little India area. There is always a queue of customers when I drive past. I was in the area around 1.45pm and was craving economy rice, so this came to mind. They open from 11 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. daily. So you can dine here after a late night out. They occupy two adjoining shophouse units at the junction of Jalan Besar and Kitchener Road. The unit closest to the traffic junction is where you order food and you can dine in at the neighboring unit. They have a total of outlets across Singapore, such as Orchard Ion, VivoCity, Upper Thomson Road, Clementi and Bishan. They have quite a variety of dishes to choose from, including pork cutlet, chicken cutlet, braised pork belly, chicken wings, fish cake, potato hash browns, prawns, egg, tau pok and more. What I found interesting was the wooden bucket behind the counter, covered in white cloth, that they keep their rice in before scooping it out for customers' orders. I had a plate of rice, fried pork cutlet, egg and stewed cabbage (ko lei chye), drenched with their signature curry sauce and braised sauce. It costs $5. At first glance, it was hard to discern what was on the plate, as the thick curry sauce and braised sauce covered everything. I don't usually mix everything up before eating and I start eating from the side of the plate. As I started digging in, I could pick out the items. Overall, the taste was good. There was a good amount of pork chop on my plate. The stewed cabbage went well with the sauces. Recommended!

Been customer at this joint for more than 30 years and every time I come again every time it feels worse Dun eat in. The place have a bad musky smell of cockroach droppings and old carton boards. I felt sick just minutes in starting my meal. Best to take away. Not coming again

Ever since the closure of the Geylang branch, I have been having cravings for scissor-cut curry rice. I must say that parking at Jalan Basah or Kitchener Road is challenging. In the end, I've decided to park at Jalan Basah Plaza, which is just adjacent to the shop. After a stone's throw walk, we finally get to pick what we wanted to eat. At about 7:45pm, there were 2 persons in the queue in front of me and there were plenty of seats in the next door unit. After picking the usual favourites, we sat down next door to savour their signature generously ladened curry and braised pork sauce rice. Couldn't wait to dig in to those savoury cabbage, braised pork, chicken cutlets, prawn fritters and fried eggs. I must say it was satisfying and it felt great making a trip down there. Counting the days till I return.

A really bad experience at the counter! The server were very good but the AUNTY IN THE COUNTER AH is a really rude person. IS THAT THE WAY YOU TALK TO YOUR CUSTOMER? I’m asking nicely about the quantity and price and suddenly shouted already?

The food here was pretty good, the portions are alright and they give alot fo their signature curry and sauce. The price can be a little expensive which is like one of the major drawbacks when eating here as I had higher expectations. The food is still good but maybe just not my cup of tea.

Pretty good curry place! Visited for the fame, place wasn’t too crowded at my time of visit, ordered a bunch of menu on my curry rice. Curry was rather watered down than I expected, unlike Japanese type curry, more like Indonesian or Malay type. Unsure if the shrimp fritter wasn’t meant to be crispy but mine was rather dull and too doughy. Dishes weren’t the hottest as they were on display, but I enjoyed the curry rice with the pork chop! Should visit when the menu are all fresh for the best experience. Pretty spacious place, might be packed during peak hours, but otherwise awesome!

My go to scissor cut curry rice totally worth it! Tasted really good!
