XO Fish Head Bee Hoon

[Holland Village XO Fish Head Bee Hoon] XO Fish Bee Hoon 👍 | Sam Lou Horfun 😥 Errrmmm... Yeah. A shadow of it's past glories. The namesake dish was served with a tepid soup, middling in flavour and the fish was tough & dry. The Sam Lou Horfun wasn't any better. Noodles were undercooked, fish again tough & dry, as if precooked ages ago and tossed into the noodles when ordered. There was an article recently about how he once rejected a $1.5m offer ages ago and rejected it then. Now he'll take abt ⅓ of that previous offer. I say, that's still way too generous after having had a taste of it's current standards. Mind you, it's not bad enough to make me upset, and you can eat it and get by, but there's no soul nor pride left put on the plate. Absolutely subpar.

The XO fish soup bee hoon is a must try as the broth is rich and milky/ creamy, achieved by simmering fish bones to extract collagen, thereby giving a cloudy/ opaque texture. The XO aroma is noticeable — you can simply smell a faint alcoholic warmth or brandy note in the steam when the dish is being served to your table. There are ginger slices in the soup to help to “lift” the fishiness. You can try to order the Hong Kong kailan to go with the bee hoon soup as it is typically cooked to order, lightly blanched or stir-fried to maintain crispness with a light oyster sauce & garlic. Other recommended side dishes are their (1) "San Lou Hor Fun" (stir-fried hor fun with sliced fish) binding with the “wok hei”, (2) "Har Cheong Gai" (prawn paste chicken wings) as the skin is crispy with not too strong of the prawn paste and (3) "Ngor Hiang" (prawn rolls). In summary, the XO fish soup bee hoon is a comforting, rich & milky fish soup while the XO gives a pleasant aroma without overwhelming c/w generous fish chunks (thick slices). Definitely a must try dish.

Brought my parents in law and daughter here for a quick lunch. Ordered their signature XO fish beehoon for 3 pax and 1 plate of prawn rolls. Just nice coz the elders and young kid don’t eat a lot. The worker gave us 3 sets of small bowls and cutlery. Went to ask for 1 more, which I believe is reasonable. Instead, I was given a quick lecture by the staff that if I wanted 4 sets I should have ordered for 4 pax. Goodness! She did give me an additional set later and explained that it was her boss who wouldn’t allow her to provide additional cutlery, not her. I can feel her pain working for such people. So here I came, and saw several reviews with similar complaints. I still wish them good luck and continue to have good business. They didn’t kill anyone for a living.

Used to loved this place a lot. Today ordered one of the xo beehoon but sadly did not taste as the same anymore. When we were ordering, we only order for one pax portion cause my partner decided to eat something else. However when the boss saw there is two of us he assumed that we are sharing and immediately said (in a bad tone) that he wont provide additional set of cutlery or bowl and shared that we are not allowed to share. We replied and said we are not sharing and he replied saying if we do this he'd rather not do our business. Im impressed.

Regular hawker centre vibes but the XO Fish Soup Bee Hoon was the bomb. The XO taste was prominent but not overpowering; very flavorful and a delight for dinner, even supper. Four big pieces of fish made for a satisfying meal. The one person portion is really enough for one person; you won’t be left disappointed. Don’t miss out the har Cheong chicken and the kailan too. The chicken was fried to perfection with the lime providing a refreshing twang in the taste profile. Worth every dollar for the XO option!

Was there yesterday.The aunty in the red shirt (sitting on the yellow chair) was really rude. The younger aunty actually told us we could take the cut chilli ourselves. But when my daughter took some, the aunty in red scolded her! Why is she acting like that? How much chilli can we possibly take? Does she think we’re going to ‘tapao’ the whole container of chilli or what? Even if your food is good, the poor service completely ruins the experience. When the service is bad, the food doesn’t even taste good anymore!

giving all my XOXOs to this XO Fish Soup Shop they don't stinge on the XO and the milk, and the result - a gao creamy soup that will make u question all other soups uve ever had i liked the har cheong kai too which was crispy and juicy but my friends found it a bit too greasy vegetables typically get a knee jerk grimace from me but this one was amazing. vegetables were crunchy and the oyster sauce gravy moreish! my learned friend also said the fried rice was good and had good wok hey

XO fish bee hoon soup, $9 per serving. XO broth pretty tasty, had the depth and richness I was looking for. Fish slices lightly fried to cooked, not too dry, but it didn’t have much seasoning on its own and relied heavily on the broth for taste. Portion size was fair for the price, but nothing really particularly stood out. Not bad if you’re craving something warm and simple comfort food.
