Tried Huxulao Jian Zao Curry Mee today after seeing quite a few photos and reviews online. When the dish was served, I was a little disappointed as the presentation was quite different from what I saw on Google Reviews. The lime sauce and herb leaf garnish were missing, which already made it look less appealing. Taste-wise, the curry gravy leaned slightly on the sweet side and wasn’t very rich or fragrant. Overall, it felt quite mild and ordinary, nothing that really stood out or impressed. Toppings were also rather basic — 3 slices of roasted pork, 3 slices of char siew, and a small amount of fried pork skin. Portion-wise, it felt quite limited, especially considering the price. At SGD 6.80 per bowl, the ingredients and overall experience did not feel very value-for-money. Personally, it didn’t leave a strong impression and I wouldn’t make a return visit. For those looking for a better curry mee experience, I would recommend Da Po Hainanese Chicken Rice & Curry Chicken Noodle instead. Their curry is aromatic, thick and full-bodied, with more generous ingredients, and is priced at only SGD 6. They are also Michelin Recommended in both 2024 and 2025, which clearly reflects their quality. Lastly, a gentle reminder not to rely too heavily on TikTok or Instagram hype — sometimes the real experience can be quite different.

I ordered No.1 - Signature Ipoh Curry noodles at around 6.50pm weekday, and I was slightly disappointed. The menu image showed my bowl should have long beans, shredded chicken and mint leaves however I didn’t get them in my bowl. Taste of curry nevertheless commendable. 👍🏻 I grew up in Ipoh so I remember how Ipoh curry will taste like and how a bowl of Ipoh curry noodles will look like and it’s not like shown in their picture menu. I wonder the other outlet bowl of curry noodles will be more complete(with long beans, shredded chicken and mint leaves) than the one I just had today.

He'd been craving curry mee for ages, so we took the MRT all the way from Punggol to MacPherson to give it a try. The Good: • The Heavenly King Curry Mee: Out of the four dishes, we decided to try the Heavenly King curry mee, which was highly recommended. It definitely had a unique flavor that you don't find in many other curry mee places. It was flavorful, with a nice spice kick, and came with shredded chicken, char siu roasted pork, and tau pok. I even asked Donkey whether he'd added extra ingredients to the curry mee because the portion was so generous! The curry mee was nice and hot, which Donkey always appreciates. • The Signature Curry Mee: We also tried the signature curry mee with a squeeze of lime juice. The lime added a refreshing tang that really enhanced the flavor. It was definitely a unique combination. The Quirks: • The Location: While it might not be the best curry mee we've ever had, it's worth checking out if you're in the MacPherson area. It's a great option for a quick and tasty meal. However, the coffee shop isn't very close to the MRT station. We had to walk about eight to ten minutes from Tai Seng station, and parking can be a bit of a challenge. There’s limited roadside parking, so you might need to park at the nearby HDB flats, which also have limited spaces. Donkey's Note: The Heavenly King Curry Mee was amazing! Very disappointing portion. Ordered #1 Ipoh curry noodles at $6.80 but to have the Ipoh horfun noodles actually need to TOP up $0.20. At $7 the ingredients were miserable - 3 thin slices of charsiew, 3 thin slices of pork, 2 taupok and 4 short stalks of long beans. Not worth the money and hype. Gravy was so-so. Likely won’t be back.

Curry noodles taste okay. But Soup is diluted. Sarkot had no sengkuang taste and feels like only has flour.

I wanted to order the Signature Nanyang Chicken Curry Dry Noodle, but it wasn’t available, so I decided to try their Sakura Chicken Curry Noodle instead. It was really delicious! I really enjoyed how flavorful yet wonderfully light the curry was—you can finish every drop without feeling 'gelak'. I feel that this is even better than some of the more popular Nanyang eatery franchises out there. A definite must try!
