Bún Bò Bà Rơi

Bun Bo Ba Roi; I've been eating there for two years, but it's gotten worse lately. My brother and I went for breakfast, and both bowls had hair in them – even fake eyelashes! – at the Ly Tu Trong branch (I complained to the restaurant, but forgot to take a picture). The next time, I forgot and went to the Phan Thanh Tai branch for lunch. There was a strand of hair in my bowl, and I was so angry I called a staff member over. They said it was COW HAIR? Seriously, when they cook bun bo, do they buy whole, unprocessed cows with their hair still on? Secondly, what kind of cow's hair in Vietnam turns black when cooked? @BunBoBaRoi, come here and explain this to me. A 3-star Michelin restaurant doing business like this? Both times they offered me a free meal, but I refused. I didn't come to eat there for free; I'm not that hungry or short of money. The restaurant needs to review its food safety and hygiene practices. I'm extremely disappointed.

This small beef noodle soup restaurant has a rather cramped space with only a narrow walkway and a few rows of tables. The restaurant is decorated with small lights shining directly onto the tables. From the outside, it looks a bit dark, but it's actually not dark at all. Perhaps because Da Nang is a tourist city, the beef noodle soup has been adjusted to reduce the amount of fish sauce to better suit tourists. Even those not used to fish sauce can enjoy it, but it might not be as flavorful for people from Central Vietnam. The accompanying condiments are quite complete and well-prepared, especially the pickled onions with chili and vinegar. The restaurant is located on a small but busy street corner, making it a bit difficult to find parking if you're driving a car. Pay attention to the parking restrictions based on even and odd days.

I only visited once and immediately realized this is a brand catering to tourists; otherwise, how could the prices be like that? (Menu in the picture below) It was true, when I went in at lunchtime, I saw quite a lot of tourists coming and going constantly. Westerners, Koreans,... all kinds. There were Vietnamese people too, not uncommon. - The flavor was decent, light and refreshing, the broth was clear, fragrant with lemongrass, and had a mild, easy-to-eat taste, not as strong or distinctive as the typical beef noodle soups in Da Nang. - My full bowl didn't have much meat, only 2-3 slices of each type at most. The meat was fresh, tasted new, and was carefully prepared, almost completely eliminating the beefy smell. - The price is around 65-70k VND per regular bowl, with extra toppings or specials costing 90-100k VND. - The indoor space was cool and airy thanks to many fans and good ventilation. When I went in the summer, it was extremely hot and humid at lunchtime, but the restaurant felt much cooler and more comfortable. - The staff were decent, attentive when customers were struggling and helpful. They seemed to have received professional training. - The Bun Ba Roi (noodle soup at Ba Roi) is expensive, but "decent." It's suitable for taking foreign friends to experience, but eating there regularly would be too expensive.

A very satisfying bowl of bún bò! The first thing I noticed was how clean everything was—from the dining area to the way the food was prepared. A clean restaurant always makes the meal more enjoyable, and this place definitely delivered. The broth was flavorful without being overwhelming, the ingredients tasted fresh, and the portion was satisfying. I also appreciated that the herbs and vegetables were fresh and well presented. The restaurant has a simple, comfortable atmosphere, and the staff worked efficiently even when it was busy. If you’re looking for a clean, delicious, and reliable place for bún bò in Da Nang, this is definitely worth a visit. I would happily come back again.

This was my last meal before leaving Da Nang, and I think it was the best bowl of noodles I had during my trip. The broth was really flavourful, and everything just came together so well 👍🏼 From what I observed, this doesn’t seem to be much of a tourist spot, as I saw quite a number of locals dining there. Definitely a great place to try if you want to have a more local dining experience in Da Nang I guess.

Vietnamese pho is usually served with beef or chicken, while rice noodles are less certain. This bowl of broth was rich and full-bodied, but not greasy. Unfortunately, I impulsively added kumquats, but the sourness didn't enhance the flavor; instead, it made the broth too heavy, which is why I didn't finish it – a real shame. On Monday mornings, the contrast between them in their company uniforms and my casually dressed self is striking. Just like the jarring addition of a large pig's trotter to this bowl of beef rice noodles. The round noodles weren't plentiful, leaving the shine to the toppings: bouncy crab balls, juicy beef shank, chewy beef tongue, and the spy pig's trotter. Having loved fatty meat since childhood, I was quite satisfied. Even with health concerns, this habit is something I, with my love of food, can't easily give up.

When we decided Da Nang would be our next destination, hubby immediately started bookmarking Michelin Guide recommendations, and this Bib Gourmand bún bò Hue shop quickly made the list. After one visit, it's easy to see why. This is about as no-frills as it gets, and that's part of the charm. You order, pay, find a seat if you're lucky, slurp your noodles, and happily make room for the next hungry customer. The place was fully packed when we arrived, but somehow we got lucky and a table opened up just as we walked in. Hubby ordered the Special BBH (90,000 VND), while I went with the Mixed version (60,000 VND). Both bowls came with cubes of pork blood which was awesome. The broth was exactly what great BBH should be - clear, deeply flavorful, and packing just enough heat to wake up your taste buds without overwhelming them. Best of all, it wasn't overly salty, allowing the richness of the beef, pork, lemongrass, and spices to shine through. Every bite felt balanced, comforting, and incredibly satisfying. One thing we appreciated almost as much as the noodles was the air conditioning and fans. Da Nang can be brutally hot, and there's something delightfully ironic about eating a steaming bowl of spicy noodle soup while trying not to melt. Thankfully, the cool air made the experience much more enjoyable. For 60,000 - 90,000 VND, this is an incredible value and exactly the kind of place we love discovering while traveling.

I stumbled upon Mrs. Roi's restaurant by chance, as it was near my hotel, and was quite surprised to learn that it had a Michelin 2025 star. Regarding the noodles, the broth was light and suited my taste, and the shrimp cake was a specialty with a fragrant crab aroma. For me, if the cake were a little chewier, it would be a 10 out of 10. The restaurant is very cleverly decorated, clean and tidy, and has a slight Japanese casual restaurant vibe rather than a purely traditional Vietnamese style. I like this combination because it creates a rather fresh feeling. Overall, I feel quite lucky to have experienced this restaurant by chance, even if it wasn't planned. I recommend everyone try it and form their own opinion.
