Wan Xi Ge (Kitchen No.8)

I ordered the garlic-baked fish, which came with (only) a huge amount of tofu skin and enoki mushrooms, and the soup was incredibly salty! The fish wasn't fresh. The restaurant's air conditioning was weak; only two units were running near the cashier (they said the other two were broken), making the meal very stuffy and unpleasant. The environment was uncomfortable. ☹️

The owner and chef have both changed the signboard and the taste, and it's completely different now. The cold noodles are now sesame sauce noodles, the grilled meat is tough, and the beef is so chewy and sinewy it's impossible to bite. Even my favorite grilled chicken wings aren't seasoned with the same sweet and salty flavor anymore; they're dry and hard. Happy Hometown is unrecognizable. Hopefully, the owner will find a better chef and quickly turn things around!

The quality of food at Kitchen No. 8 varies greatly. The arrangement of a round table for 15 people is indeed absurd, and the manager's grumpy attitude is a major drawback. However, signature dishes like sweet and sour pork, spicy chicken, and cumin beef are still flavorful and tender, and the pickled cabbage beef and grilled skewers are also reliable. Service is lackluster except for one attentive young woman; the environment is clean. Prices vary widely, ranging from 30 to 90 RMB per person. It's recommended to avoid peak hours, avoid large tables, and order popular dishes to ensure a satisfying meal.

Ordered pork belly skewers ($1.80 each), fried eggs with tomato ($12.80), dry pan potato chips ($12.80), and la zhi ji ($18.80). Food was average, felt that the standard has dropped. The tomato egg was soso, the potato chips weren’t the crispy kind, which was a bit disappointing. The skewers and la zhi ji were still quite decent. Overall, I find it on the pricier side as there are tastier and cheaper options elsewhere, but it’s convenient since it’s near Sembawang Shopping Mall. The place was filled with more China customers, and the food took a while to arrive.

Worse service ever! Absolutely terrible! The wait was incredibly long!! The staff were dishonest; when asked how long the wait would be, they said 5 minutes. The result? 1 hour and 30 minutes before the food was even ready. There weren't many people there, so why did it take so long? Of all the Chinese restaurants I've been to, yours is the worst.

Waited 45 minutes for everything to be serve, restaurant was only at about 50% full. Food is salty and not the best. Place is hot.
