The old school vibe for the cakes n pies ...are clearly missing. Chicken pie looked big but full of air pockets n little ingredients. The fragrance from baking is no longer felt at the shop. Maybe all these activities happened at off site central kitchen. The ang gu kueh (peanut) tasted just ok n not too sweet. The char siew soh looked big n ingredients are moist. These foods are consolation findings. Will try others (tau sah piau, banana cake, soon kueh) next time. Located near car park (interim hawker centre) n opposite mrt station near beauty world.

While the place was once bustling, it seems quieter these days. Most customers seem to go for their bite-sized muffins, which I'm not crazy about. However, on my most recent visit, I noticed they seem to have addressed feedback about portion size, as the muffins look a little bigger now. I much prefer their old-school fresh cream cakes. They are perfectly sweetened and simple. While the price has admittedly gone up over the years and the cakes seem to have shrunk slightly in size, they still represent good value. My go-to choices are the Chocolate and the Yam. I particularly like the Yam one because the cream is light and you can taste real yam bits. They also offer a fancier range of cakes, but those just don't appeal to me. While they do have traditional pastries, these are only average, so my advice is to stick to the classic cream cakes.

Chanced upon this old-school confectionery and bakery on the way to Beauty World Hawker Centre. It’s one of the few remaining traditional shops offering nostalgic, hard-to-find childhood treats. The mini muffins were decent, but the kaya cake was a letdown—the kaya layer was too sticky and dry, lacking the rich flavor you’d expect. Still a good place to find your pastime snacks.

I was at this iconic old-school confectionery today to take away some local cake, bakes and savoury kuehs. I took away a Kaya Cake Slice, a pair of Salty Tau Sar Piah and a box of 5 mini Soon Kuehs. The second - the Salty Tau Sar Piah - from Ng Kim Lee Confectionery is undoubtedly for me, its gold standard and it remains so (again for me) until today. Service here was very good - very friendly and helpful. The shopping ambience here is very pleasant.

I got the $2.30 mushroom chicken pie and although it looked big (almost the size of my fist), when sliced opened it was disappointing. The filling quantity looked like it would only fill up one spoon, and most of the size was due to air cavity. This isn't the kind of product that would draw me back.

An old school bakery with all the nostalgic bakes. Cakes that are still cut in the 70s style like the decor. The kaya cake was a let down, it used to be better and a bigger piece. But the char siew pastry was delicious and warm, thankfully.
