Only a few tables were occupied when we reached slightly after 6pm. But soon the dinner crowd started to come in.
I had the ramen in chicken broth. It came with an egg, braised pork belly and slices of char siu. I like that the broth is pretty light yet well flavoured compared to some other ramen outlets out there. The char siu is a tad too fatty, from the photo ,and is clearly more than 50% fat (maybe it’s just this batch) and the braised pork belly tasted like straight from canned food. However, the ramen is really good, it has a chewy, QQ texture, and what you would called was al dente. I could just eat the ramen with the broth alone. The other thing I like about the ramen is that it has lots of chopped spring onions and chopped greens in it (didn’t get to find out what the other chopped greens was) and that sort of offset some of the greasiness from the fatty char siu.
The Japanese claypot rice is pretty average. It was a promo set and came with a drink and soup. It don’t look like a lot but it was nonetheless filling.
Fried squid was like any other fried food and is just average too, crispy and nice.
I like to commend on the service of the young male server, for he was attentive and had lots of initiative. He regularly busied himself, coming over to check and topped up our water. Oh yes, there is complimentary water provided here, forget about those restaurants that want to make good money for providing cheap water, or making you order their expensive beverages.
I would come back to try the meatball ramen, because it looked unique. Parking at dinner time is also relatively easy at Tai Seng 18 car park.
