Fa Cai Roasted Delight 发财烧腊

One of the BEST roasted meat stalls I have tried! 🤤 The roasted pork (烧肉) was outstanding – the skin was incredibly crispy with just the right amount of crunch, and the meat remained juicy and flavourful. What impressed me most was that I visited close to closing time, yet the crackling was still perfectly crispy. That’s not easy to achieve! The stall has some fun little touches. I couldn’t stop smiling at the witty Chinese phrases around the shop and even on the plates. My favourite was “我在发财烧腊，很想您鸭” (“I’m at Fa Cai Roasted Meat, really missing you… duck 🦆”). Such a clever play on words that adds to the dining experience. One thing to note: they are very popular and often sell out by around 7pm. I was lucky enough to get my meal tonight, although the soup had already sold out. Parking tip: If you’re driving, be extra careful after 7pm. Some parking lots nearby become reserved from 7pm to 7am, and the parking enforcement officers are very active. We learnt it the hard way with a $70 parking ticket. 🙃 Definitely worth coming back for the crispy roasted pork!

Ordered the triple meat noodles and char siew & wanton noodles via delivery. There is no option to add chilli to noodle dishes. Without chilli, the black sauce was flat and not able to bring out the flavour of the noodles. Meat was lean, which may be a good thing for some, but it was lean till the point where some of the char siew was flaky. Personally, I would prefer it to have a little fat at least. Wanton is inedible. The skin of the wanton was thick and hard. To make things worse, the meat within was gamey. The soup was the strangest mix of clashing flavour that I have tasted. Definitely did not enjoy my meal.

This is one of the best 黯然销魂饭 I’ve had in years. The taste profile is very authentic, with humble yet flavorful dishes that really capture the essence of comfort food. The only area for improvement would be the rice—it could be better cooked to fully complement the rich flavors.

One of the top notch char siews. Hard to find. The portion they gave was great too. Will keep coming back. 5/5
