The lunch hour rush had me scrambling out of my colleague’s car and straight into the hawker centre, knowing well that many of the stalls here would already be drawing long queues. Not wanting to miss out, I quickly made my pick and found myself joining the line at Jiu Jiang Shao La, eager to see if it would be worth the wait. I went for the Char Siew & Roast Pork Rice (Char Shao Shao Rou Fan). Initially, I was asking the stall assistant to add more gravy onto my plate, only to realise later that the gravy was actually self-service, allowing me to pour as much as I liked to suit my own preference. The sweet, luscious gravy draped over the well-barbecued meats was simply heavenly, soaking beautifully into the rice beneath. They were certainly not shy with the fatty cuts, staying true to how traditional roasts should be done, delivering that indulgent richness in every bite. For those who appreciate a darker char with crisp, caramelised edges, this is one plate you definitely wouldn’t want to miss.

Always not open when I visit on Saturday, and decided to queue when I see that they are finally open for business. I queue half way and realised only left roast duck. Have high expectations and really tasted extremely normal. Didn’t like that aunty rice scope is dip in a bowl of water with Plastic pieces floating on it.. 🤦🏻♀️ aunty attitude is nice and their service is “ decent” still, didn’t appreciate the plastic on the rice scope.

Super dry duck and burnt roast pork. Get ready to digest charcoal. Wonder why people queue for this?!?! Uncle chopping the meat talks like the whole world owes him a living. He had 20 roasted ducks but refused to sell one drumstick. Everyone should avoid. $8 for a few pathetic slices of roast duck and burnt roast pork.

The roasted meats at Jiu Jiang Shao La (九江燒臘) were absolutely delicious! The roast duck were perfectly cooked – crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, with a wonderful smoky flavor. The sauce paired so well with the meat, especially with rice. It felt like enjoying authentic Hong Kong-style roast right here. Definitely a place I’d love to come back to!

Ordered a takeaway portion of their Charsiew, Roasted Meat and Roasted Duck combo. Came back to see a pile of scraps that wouldnt normally be served to a customer in queue. Duck was full of bones, including some without any meat on it. Roasted meat and char siew slivers were the end pieces, which were dry and with no substance at all. Theres one thing to charge high prices, the other is ethically giving portions to your customers. Despite hearing wonders about this place, its a very bad experience from this store.

7/10. Duck meat is quite dry by itself. Tasted much better if eaten with skin. Roast pork and char siew is much better. Good portion. Open only for 3 days in a week and usually with a long queue.
