Jia Xiang Mala Hotpot 家乡麻辣火锅

My favourite mala place. Generally more affordable than the other mala places. Ingredients are fresh. Mala sauce is good. My usual combo: 1. Lots of meat 2. Lots of mushroom 3. Octopus leg 4. Fish maw 5. Spinach 6. Quail Eggs 7. Lots of fried bean curd sheet 8. Spinach noodles

Well, even though there are many Mala hotpot stall around the area, this probably the best Mala Hotpot I tried around Jurong West st 41. I ordered a 中辣 Mala Hotpot with selection of some luncheon meat, mushrooms, veggies and koka noodles, and a plate of 辣子鸡 for 2 pax. I personally do not like those too dry and it will just turn me off if it’s just too oily. The bowl of Mala is well stir-fried and you can smell the “wok hey” without seeing the soggy noodle. The toppings of crunchy peanuts, sesame seeds and some corianders make the bowl of Mala hotpot palatable. Taste good! Will definitely come try more of other dishes from this stall!

This is the smallest $20 vegetable only malai I have ever seen. I cannot believe how little of everything that I received. None of my 8 order items weighted 100g. My weight machine show less than 700 gram and this is with all the heavy sauce and spices. Vegetables also get heavier when stirred fried, This is absolutely ridiculous and I feel like being scammed.

Overall good mala soup and Chinese food. Average waiting time 30mins. Recommend to call to order and pickup

Taste: Authentic spice and numbness with good bone broth soup. Recommend malatang over the dried version. Medium spicy would be sufficiently hot for most people. 大辣 would have slight tears dropping down your cheeks 😂 but still recommended! Cost: $11-14 for 2 pax Waiting time: 15-20 minutes peak hours, but finding available seats was harder. Overall: 8/10

It was just a random find at Jurong West as we were buying to bring to friend’s house. Taste was unexpectedly good! Price is also reasonable as they go by overall weight instead of weight per category of ingredient. Recommended!

Reasonable price, tasty food. Unlike some mala that is very salty and oily, this is moderate. Variety of ingredients is good. It is located within a newly renovated coffee shop so it is bright, clean and airy.

(Review only for the 辣子鸡丁） This is much like a popcorn version of things, not too spicy, but really generous serving at $10.50 for a takeaway portion. Will definitely come back for just this dish alone 👍🏻
