Boon Tong Kee

I have lunch set in Compass One Boon Tong Kee, this is my first time here and try their chicken rice. I order set A and it come with chicken, rice, vege and chee Cheong fun. The portions very big for me and I also add on chicken liver for $3 and the portion very generous. I am very satisfied with their service and the staff all very polite. They will keep checking with you need any help or extra chili too. I like their ginger sauce and chili sauce. The chicken very smooth and no smelly and they debone it. If they have complimentary plain soup come with set lunch will great. Total damages $16.55 with service charge and GST.

First time trying this Boon Tong Kee outlet, and unfortunately it couldn’t quite match the standard of the Balestier outlet I visited a few years ago. The signature boiled chicken wasn’t as tender. The meat texture was slightly rough and the flavour felt rather bland. Thankfully, the grated ginger was still good and complemented the chicken nicely. The rice was average too. We also ordered the yam ring with imperial pork ribs. The pork ribs were tender and flavourful, but the yam ring itself lacked yam taste, which made the dish less enjoyable overall. Overall, a decent meal.

I ordered a few dishes during my first time visit (26/4/2026) : 1. Signature Boiled Chicken (Half) 美味白切鸡 - The chicken was delicious, tender, and well-cooked. The ginger paste and chili sauce were a perfect match. 2. Imperial Pork Ribs 京都排骨王 - Very tasty with soft meat, suitable for all ages. 3. Fermented Bean Curd You Mai Cai 腐乳油麦菜 - The taste was quite average, as the fermented bean curd flavour was not strong enough. 4. Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Egg 咸蛋蒸肉饼 - Overall acceptable, but the flavour could be improved. 5. Pan-Fried Omelette with Preserved Radish 菜脯煎蛋 - Quite normal, lacking the distinct taste of preserved radish. Overall, dishes 1 and 2 stood out and were enjoyable, while dishes 3–5 could be improved in terms of flavour. The staff were friendly, helpful, and provided good service. However, the dining environment felt quite warm, and the air-conditioning did not seem sufficient.

3.5/5, good and comfortable place for a chicken rice. Service is usually quite fast and rather attentive. Hainanese chicken is usually tender and flavourful but there are one or two instances where it was a little tough. Fried or roasted spring chicken is quite good as well, savoury and crispy. Other dishes can be a mix of hit and misses. I found the steamed threadfin to not be adequately fresh enough. The dough fritters with some mystery meat didn’t impress me and we struggled to finish it. The stewed cabbage with dried scallops were sweet and light. Fried eggs with scallops was also quite good. Prices are on the higher side for a chicken rice restaurant.

Came here on a weekday late afternoon. Staff were very friendly and accommodated to my request. As long as the steam chicken has jelly thats all that is a good indicator of a perfected chicken. Large serving of chicken liver (鸡肝） added. Will definitely be back to solo half a chicken when i heard its 18$ . Had the $12.80 set that came with herbal drink, a soup that tasted as good as lao huo tang and the side of ngoh hiang was superb. 🤗

Coming to Boon Tong Kee, the must order will be the Steamed Chicken. The chicken is well done - Tender, Cold and Appetizing. Eating Steamed Chicken is similar to slurping Jellies. Very comfortable to eat, very cooling and good texture. The warm rice, together with the chicken creates a perfect balance. The other dishes are more towards Zichar style and it is definitely a nice addition to your chicken rice meal. While it is delicious, it is not necessarily a wow.

Takeaway chicken rice is completely skinless... we ask for debone, not de-skin

The food is tasty, and the service staff are very friendly and helpful. It will be undergoing renovations in April 2026.
