Bep Hen is a Michelin recognized restaurant. While on vacation in Da Nang Vietnam, I stayed at the Fivitel Boutique in Hai Chau. I was happy to see a top rated restaurant so close to my hotel. But for a seven day vacation Bep Hen had the worst food. My wife and I were amazed at the vintage style decor. The walls and cabinets are adorned with antiques. We sat upstairs which is also loaded with things from years gone by. We ordered first the garlic fried shrimp. This was the only dish we liked and honestly there was nothing special about it. Second order was the Chicken lemongrass. This fell flat, subtle flavor lacking quality chicken pieces. Third order was the fried pork belly. Couldn't get past the first few bites. The last order was the steamed bass, this was also below average in preparation and flavor We both and the tables next to us all got the feeling the kitchen is just rushing out the orders quickly with no attention to the flavor. We left behind uneaten more than half of what we ordered. And we didn't want to take the leftovers with us. Being a recognized restaurant I was very disappointed in our dining experience at Bep Hen. This little restaurant is incredibly welcoming and aesthetic and the staff were all attentive and polite, however this was easily the most disappointing meal I've had in the six weeks I have been in Vietnam. To be clear, not the worst meal I've had, but the most disappointing. The dishes had weak flavor, flavors didn't match descriptions, and it seemed like sugar or sweetener had been added in places it didn't belong. Somehow with every dish that was delivered the bar got lower and lower.

Food itself is okay but nothing special, service is standard and feels rushed. For example my friend was still eating and we already got the bill even though the restaurant would close 35 min later.... further i got my food first and my friends arrived almost 30min later without an excuse. Waiters are slow and seem as they don't want to work. Tables stay unfinished for a long time before clearing them. I think the hype is not worth visiting the restaurant , for the price you definitely get better and more authentic food. Thus you have to pay extra for rice and you won't be full. Safe money and go somewhere else

The restaurant is beautiful and very cozy, with a thoughtfully designed interior that makes it a lovely place to sit and dine. Some of the dishes were genuinely delicious and full of flavor. However, the atmosphere felt quite hectic during our visit. The young waitstaff seemed stressed and very busy, which made the service feel rushed rather than relaxed. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, which unfortunately contained quite a lot of bones. I personally prefer boneless chicken, so this wasn’t ideal for me — though I understand that others may appreciate it, and I might simply be a bit picky. The restaurant also doesn’t offer desserts.

UPDATE: We've been here about 6x now and it still remains my favorite restaurant in Danang. We've tried more items and I'm uploading more photos here. _____________________ What a fantastic meal we had here. This little restaurant is bursting with charm and its quaint interior is oozing old school nostalgia. I felt transported to a different time, as if, we were intruding on someone's private lives. The menu is big and includes a good variety of vegetarian dishes. If you're stuck, focus on the "mom's cooking" or "chef's choice" sections and you won't go wrong. Eggplant with garlic, fried shrimp with garlic, tofu with minced pork, and fried egg rolls were all outstanding. Highly impressive that they can take humble ingredients and make them taste like a million bucks. The portions are a lot smaller than American portions yet, we still had leftovers. Everything blew me away. Can't wait to come back again to try other things on the menu. **UPDATE: came back again, ordered fried fish, sweet potato leaves and mushrooms with garlic, and lemongrass chicken on top of what we ordered before. Still as tasty as before, and still remains my favorite restaurant in Danang.

The savory dishes eaten with rice, such as braised mushrooms with pepper and braised pork belly with eggs, were quite flavorful and well-seasoned, so they’re best enjoyed with rice. The boiled sweet potato leaves were average and nothing special. The service was good, the prices were reasonable, and the restroom was clean.
