Nhà Bếp Xưa Restaurant

A colleague discovered this restaurant during a trip to Da Nang earlier this year and highly recommended it to me. I finally had the chance to visit on my last day in Da Nang, and I’m glad I did for two reasons. First, the food was outstanding. I dined with my family of eight, so we ordered a wide variety of dishes, and every one was excellent. It was the best Vietnamese food we had during our trip. I was especially excited to try My Quang, and it lived up to the hype. Our favorite dish was the Banh Xeo, which was perfectly crispy and beautifully prepared. About 80% of the customers during our visit appeared to be locals, which says a lot about the restaurant’s quality and popularity. Second, the service was exceptional. Half of our group arrived earlier and had already placed most of the order, so the rest of us did not have a chance to review the menu carefully. When the My Quang arrived topped with peanuts, we became concerned because one member of our group has a severe peanut allergy and carries an EpiPen. The staff immediately noticed our concern and kindly prepared a fresh bowl without peanuts. Their attentiveness and understanding made a big impression on us. At first, I assumed this might be a tourist trap because the menu is available in multiple languages, includes photos of nearly every dish, and there is a large TV showing how to eat certain local specialties. However, I quickly realized that this place serves some of the most authentic Vietnamese cuisine we experienced, while also making international visitors feel welcome and safe. If you're visiting Da Nang and looking for great food, warm hospitality, and a restaurant that takes food allergies seriously, I highly recommend this place.

We had lunch here on a weekday. There was no queue. It was comfortable here in the hot Da Nang atmosphere. We were immediately served well by the staff there. We ordered chicken wings and poached pork (you can order it non-spicy). We forgot to take photo foods from the beginning. We got a free drink (Vietnamese iced tea = Tra Da). The chicken and pork were quite tender, and the spices were just right for our taste. We will come back. again.

I’ve been to Nha Bep Xua twice, and my overall impression is that it’s an above average restaurant that does a good job effectively churning through their high-volume clientele to lower wait times, but I feel that the food, while good, is slightly overpriced and overrated. This is one of the key reasons I try to avoid eating in the My Khe beach area of Da Nang, as it really caters to transplants, expats, tourists more than giving anyone a real glimpse of deep Vietnam. Let me break down the food here for you. The prawn dishes and the crispy spring rolls are by far my favorite things I’ve eaten here. Both are honestly quite tasty and memorable. Perfect cook and texture on both, with loud and savory flavors. That said, the beef-noodle-vegetable dish is overwhelming and average at best. It just tastes like something I could whip up at home. Finally the pho bo. I’ve tried and ranked 12 different pho restaurants around the metropolitan area of Da Nang, and I ended up placing Nha Bep Xua’s pho bo near the bottom of the list, at slot 9. Here’s where they succeed and where they falter: Their menu announces that their pho bo is something special, setting expectations high. The soup comes with sides of basil, lime, bean sprouts, fresh red chili, two slightly different spicy-semi-sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, pepper, hoisin, green onions. So far, so good. The broth isn’t fishy and you can taste the traditional seasonings—they aren’t overpowering, actually quite a good balance. The noodles are close to al dente but do have a slight mush. The beef is good but slightly chewy, with not enough give. Overall the pho bo is slightly underwhelming in the context of the entire pho experience in Da Nang. An offbeat point is that the spoons are built for a variety of dishes I believe, and they don’t have the deeper soup spoon you usually find at pho restaurants, meaning it’s kind of a hassle to actually spoon all the broth into to your mouth. While the location is prime, with My Khe beach not far at all, and the decor is beautiful, and the staff are both friendly and very efficient—ultimately it just isn’t worth it for me. You can get a superior bowl of pho at less than half the price. However, the various prawn and roll dishes shine through strongly.

Came here for lunch for the first time on a Wednesday, was abit hard for us to find, but its like most places with a narrow frontage. Trying to find a park for our bikes out front was quite hard too. It was very busy with locals and tourists which tells us the food must be good so were excited to try it out. Once your seated, trying to grab someone to take your order is abit hard, but once you do order we didn't have to wait too long for our food this visit. Although we did hear that at dinner time its abit harder to get a seat and slower service because it is so busy. But keep in mind its the sort of place you go in, eat up and get out. We ordered a few different things from the menu and it was all very enjoyable, so we understand why it gets a good rating here. We heard there is usually a line up outside at dinner time, so patience is needed, plus to get served. There is good airconditioning inside which is a relief on those really hot days and nights. Its not a huge restaurant inside, alot of movement of people coming and going. Parking our bikes outside in the street was abit of a nightmare but if your on foot, you will be ok. But anyway we enjoyed our lunch time visit, so this will be our new go too from now on for good Vietnamese food

I didn’t realize just how hyped this place was until we arrived. Luckily, we came at the right time and only had to wait about five minutes—but I’ve since heard waits can stretch to 45 minutes or even an hour. That said, it’s absolutely worth it. The food quality is on another level—everything tasted incredibly fresh, and we were genuinely impressed with our meal. While it’s not exactly a hidden gem and definitely draws plenty of tourists, there’s a clear reason it’s earned Michelin recognition. If you don’t mind a potential wait, this place more than delivers.

Had a realllyyy good meal here. Great pricing too. Ordered the chicken wings on a whim and they were really delicious - couldn’t figure out the sauce they were coated in but need to find the recipe! Mango smoothie and the pho were nice too.

This place was recommended to us by a local. We ordered so many dishes and everything was delicious!! The ban xeo is a must! So crispy and the pork is so tender. Definitely would come back

Yum! I tried this place because it was reviewed so well. There was a short wait and we had to share our table, the paint colors were cheerful. The place is very busy(usually a good sign), some other customers seemed impatient but really the service was good and our order was taken as soon as I set the menu down, the servers spoke English very well(not expected but certainly appreciated), it was service with a smile. As for the food,, it came out quickly, it was hot and fresh and it deserves all the five star reviews. 👍👍 They knocked it out of the park so to speak. Big portions, fair prices and delicious!
