Mama Diam 妈妈店: Hidden restaurant and cocktail bar (Prinsep Street)

2nd visit to Mama Diam to celebrate a birthday with my family, and felt that I should leave a review after having such a nice time! The service staff were super warm and friendly - our Orh Nee Tart was served with a really cheery “Happy Birthday” song (and this was after singing for 4 other birthdays happening tonight)! Overall, food was generally good too - the starters were fun and the mains were generously-portioned and hearty with classic flavours. Definitely would recommend this place for a date night or fun family dinner!

Mama Diam is one of those places that feels like a hidden gem from the moment you arrive. Disguised as a nostalgic mama shop, the entrance alone sets the tone for the experience. You’ll find yourself pulling open what looks like a magazine-lined shelf door before stepping into a completely different world — a cosy, dimly lit speakeasy that instantly feels cool and intimate. Inside, the atmosphere is effortlessly stylish with a retro twist. The blend of old-school Singaporean elements and a modern bar setup creates a unique vibe that’s both relaxed and a little cinematic, almost like you’ve stumbled into a secret spot not everyone knows about. The staff were friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall comfortable experience. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in easily, whether you’re catching up with friends or just enjoying a laid-back night out. Drinks are definitely a highlight here. The menu features creative, locally inspired cocktails — from nostalgic flavours to more experimental mixes — which makes it fun to try something different. Even better, they run a happy hour daily (around 4pm to 6pm), where selected drinks are offered at reduced prices, making it a great time to visit and sample a few options without breaking the bank. The small bites were also enjoyable, with a good variety of modern twists on local flavours. They’re perfect for sharing and complement the drinks well, though portions are more suited for light snacking rather than a full meal. One thing to note — the space is relatively small and quite popular, so it can fill up quickly. It’s definitely a good idea to make a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment. Overall, Mama Diam is more than just a bar — it’s an experience. From the hidden entrance to the nostalgic concept, creative drinks, and cosy atmosphere, it’s a spot that stands out in Singapore’s nightlife scene.

Interesting place hidden behind a book shelf. The atmosphere is totally different from the vintage Mamadiam look at the front, more like a bar with fine dining vibe. Service is great here. Maria is our host. Gayle and Percious also did great to intro us to the menu. The food serve quickly. Overall food is of good quality and creative in the way they portray the local Hainanese dishes. We had the set menu that serve a platter of entre with hebihiam noodle, satay balls and chicken kueh paiteh. Then include also the 2 chilli crab bun. Our mains are the barramundi and chicken poach rice. Quite good overall. The poach rice is a bit underwhelming but the herbal soup is nice. Would recommend this place. Forgot to mention, they serve a great number of creative cocktails.

We came here... through the secret door 🤫 🚪📚on our last night in town before flying home without a reservation and it was amazing. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I have this thing when I'm traveling, particularly in hot climates that at least once I have a blue drink...it just feels like holidays! 😬🤷🍹 So after checking their excellent cocktail list, there wasn't a blue one but our hostess checked with the expert bar crew who made an amazing bespoke blue cocktail that was so good I had two ! We were just after a light dinner, the food was absolutely first rate, fresh and so delicious, we had salted egg yolk lotus chips, crispy tiger prawn balls and tempura cauliflower with a mandarin orange creme brulee combined with the PB white rabbit sundae cocktail to finish. Then the staff gave us gifts at the end! Such a great experience all around, highly recommend, we'll definitely go back when next in Singapore. 😋♥️

Every drink felt intentional, balanced, and honestly… a little dangerous in the best way. But let’s talk about the real MVPs—Gayle, Precious, and Maria. These three didn’t just serve, they orchestrated. Gayle brought that effortless charm and knew exactly what to recommend without missing a beat. Precious? Detail-oriented queen—everything was on point, from timing to presentation. And Maria sealed the deal with warmth that makes you want to stay way longer than planned. Service like that isn’t common—it’s curated, it’s personal, it’s elite without being intimidating. If you’re looking for a spot that blends mystery, quality, and top-tier hospitality, this is it. No gatekeeping—go see for yourself.

We found this gem right in the city, and it was such a delightful experience. The food features local cuisine with an elevated twist, making each dish feel both familiar and special. A standout for us was the soft shell crab bao appetizer—perfectly crunchy without being overly salty. The Hae Bee Hiam Mee and salted egg yolk lotus chips are also must-tries. We also ordered the Aged Pu Er Smoked Crispy Chicken, which was flavourful and great for sharing. What made the experience even more memorable was the service. Precious and Gayle were incredibly warm, attentive, and thoughtful throughout our meal. Their friendly and joyful personalities truly elevated the entire dining experience. Well done!

Probably the most fascinating thing for our group was walking through that sliding door that was part of the mamashop facade to enter the dining area as all of us honestly didn't read or check up on that. Reservation was made a few days prior and our group of 7 just turned up. Food-wise nothing to crow about (will give a 7 out of 10 for all) though the elderly birthday boy gave a thumbs up for his chicken poached rice collagen soup. We tried the soft shell chilli crab bun, roast duck tarts and stuffed seafood lychee balls - appetisers to fill our tummies before the mains came (beef cheek, hainanese chicken chop, puer crispy chicken, etc). We really do love the friendly disposition of the waitresses there though. They made the dining experience memorable for the two birthday peeps in our group.

Their menu is as creative as it looks on paper—and honestly, it delivers (mostly). The soft shell crab pau rocks. Probably one of the best chili crab experiences without the hassle—no shelling, no mess, just straight enjoyment. Perfect for impatient people like me 😂 The hebi hiam is very authentic. Taste-wise you can get something similar elsewhere at a lower price, but let’s be real—you’re also paying for the ambience and vibes here, which are really really nice 😆 The seafood lychee is more beauty than substance. Super Instagrammable and creative, but taste-wise it’s just decent—not bad, just not something I’d specifically come back for. Now the drinks—this is where they really shine. We had a watermelon-based cocktail and a yuzu highball, and both were bright, refreshing, and very well-balanced. Clean flavors, not overly sweet, and thoughtfully crafted—feels like they’re designed to complement the food, not just look pretty. Service was impeccable, with special mention to Precious and Gale—attentive, warm, and really elevated the whole experience. Overall, a fun, creative spot with some standout hits and some “for the ‘gram” items—but definitely worth trying for the full experience.
