Spent my Sunday with my wife at this Indonesian food-themed café for brunch and left with a happy belly. If you're craving for Indonesian flavours with a good cup of coffee, this place delivers.
My wife and I shared quite a spread — I went for the sambal balado fried chicken with gado gado, and she had the rendang chicken. For drinks, I had a double shot espresso, my wife a cappuccino, and we also got a mocha to share.
Firstly, we love the sambal chilli — honestly a highlight. It's the kind of sambal that gets it just right: robust and punchy, not swimming in sugar like some versions out there, with a heat that builds beautifully without setting your mouth on fire. The sambal chilli in green was served with the rendang chicken and also with the emping crackers.
The sambal balado layered on the fried chicken was nice too it carried that similar character, not too sweet. The chicken itself was tasty, though I'd personally love it a touch juicier — but the sambal more than made up for it.
The espresso was a standout for me. Rich, deep, and satisfyingly bitter without that sharp sourness that can sometimes ruin a shot. It had a clean, full-bodied finish. The cappuccino and mocha were both great too — though fair warning, we had a little moment of confusion when they arrived. The cappuccino came dusted with cocoa powder, and the mocha had the latte art — which is usually the other way around! A small mix-up that gave us a good laugh.
Service was warm and attentive. The kitchen was a little slow during lunch hour, but to their credit, they put up a notice upfront about the wait time — a thoughtful touch that sets expectations right. Seating indoors is a bit limited, though there's more room outdoors. On a hot Singapore afternoon, you'd want to snag an indoor spot if you can.
Overall, a lovely café with a genuine Indonesian soul. We'll be back — especially for that sambal.
