As part of our regular cycling excursions, Kitty and I, along with our group of friends, made a stop at The Roti Prata House on Upper Thomson Road for an early breakfast. This establishment is well known for serving high-quality local fare, and in terms of the food itself, it did not disappoint. The "kosong" (plain) prata was exceptionally crispy, and both the coffee and tea were remarkably flavourful and robust. However, the service on this occasion was somewhat of a setback. Although the staff attempted to be efficient by taking our group's entire order at once, there were several oversights. We placed our order for pratas and drinks at 7:05 am, yet while the drinks and plain pratas arrived promptly, the egg pratas were missing. Despite a reminder at 7:35 am, they only finally graced our table at 7:45 am. Furthermore, we had specifically requested fish curry, but the waiter inadvertently brought chicken curry instead. To avoid any unnecessary waste, we decided to keep the chicken curry, though it was a slight disappointment at the time. When the egg pratas did eventually arrive, they were admittedly very nice and well prepared. While the food remains a strong draw for any cycling group, the service could certainly benefit from better attention to detail during the morning rush. It remains a good spot for a hearty meal, provided one has a bit of patience for the service.

Travelled quite a distance to get here because it's truly one of the best places to get roti prata and authentic flavours🩷 The place itself is right next to Upper Thomson MRT Exit 3✨ Food: They have a huge menu of the basics from flavours to varieties. For the pratas, they have the plain to butter to Milo (unique flavours) to coin prata. The special pratas are larger in size, and everything is perfectly brown and crisp. The curry is spicy (Ask for the fish curry, it's sourish. I'm so grateful for the server who noticed I was sobbing over how spicy the other versions are, my tolerance is low🤭) All the flavours are truly authentic and flavourful, it's very nice to experience such genuine cooking nowadays where you can taste everything truly. The drinks are very sweet though, I got the teh peng and the milo peng. Service: They are very friendly, I had zero problems communicating and asking for help with takeaways or ordering 🌸The food came out around 5-10 minutes after ordering (There's a TV that displays how long you have been there since ordering) Process of dining in for reference: Just settle in and let yourself be known. The menu is located at the slot underneath the table. You have to call the person over to order. Once you are done with your meal, you can take the clipboard and proceed to the cashier where they accept most payments but no paywave ✨ As a introvert dining alone: It is very easy to order and eat alone🌸 I went around 1pm, there was people but many empty tables. You should prepare tissues.

Dropped by during the lunch hour and, as expected, the place was buzzing with activity. Managed to get a table without wait. Ordered the egg onion prata and a hot teh tarik. The prata came out fairly quickly despite the crowd, which is a good sign. Texture-wise, it was nicely crispy on the outside while still soft inside. The egg and onion filling was generous and well-balanced, though slightly on the oily side—which is kind of expected for prata anyway. The curry served alongside was decent—flavorful with a mild spice kick, but not particularly standout compared to other prata spots. The teh tarik was solid: smooth, creamy, and not overly sweet. Served hot and paired well with the meal.

Overall - A great restaurant super cheap, good food, and good service. A bit crooked (literally) but still good. I have been going here since I was a young child great food. Food - Overall the food is very good you can buy a Roti Prata for very cheap and the curry sauce is free. Though I have to admit the curry is not very complex but it is still delicious. Service - Service is very attentive and whenever you need something you can get the attention of any server fairly quickly and they will bring what you request fairly quickly. Atmosphere - The atmosphere is okay. It is not the most decorative restaurant and they are fairly open air but it is not necessarily bad it has a bit of a charm but that could be nostalgia talking. The outdoor seating is located on an incline so it can be a bit awkward sitting there. Still overall pretty good restaurant would recommend.

Competent prata place, nothing stand out. Compared to the Leaf, i prefer the Leaf's egg prata, and complimentary curry. But prefer Prata house's kosong prata over the Leaf. I'm quite biased towards the curry determining the quality of a prata place and unfortunately their curry is more average, the chicken and fish curry here is more herbal. Also got their mutton curry, and it's quite nice, but is an extra cost side dish. Egg prata ($2) is more fluffy than crispy, and the prata becomes abit like a fluffy bread, which is ok, quite average. The cheese prata is also quite normal, the cheese inside becomes melted and ur eating dough covered cheese (which is great). It is not crispy and abit bready, so it's really quite average. Migoreng is pretty good, but i wouldn't order it for one, as the oily, egg noodle flavour becomes abit much after about a quarter in. Crispy plain prata ($1!!! wow) is quite good, slightly better than the Leaf. Inside it is fluffy and fine with a very lightly crisp outside compared to the Leaf's hard crisp and big chunky insides. Also my teh O cup was straight up cracked and slowly dribbling a small puddle of tea on the table as my meal went on lol.

The curry chicken was served cold, which was a major turn-off. I’m quite surprised a restaurant would serve cold food. The plain roti prata seemed pre-made, while the egg prata appeared to be cooked upon order. My Maggie goreng was decent, and although the tulang soup looked thick and rich, I didn’t try it. This is my second or third visit, but I’ve definitely had much better prata elsewhere. The cold curry chicken really affected the experience — I would rate this 1–2 stars. Will not return again.

Review of The Roti Prata House @ Upper Thomson Road If you are a fan of crispy roti prata, this is a place worth visiting. Their prata is pan-fried till nicely crisp, with a satisfying crunch on the outside while still enjoyable on its own or dipped into fish or chicken curry. Personally, I still enjoy prata the childhood way — with sugar. Simple, nostalgic, and surprisingly addictive. Prices here are also very reasonable: • Plain prata at just $1.00 • Egg prata at $1.20 What I like about prata is that there are almost 100 ways to enjoy it. Beyond the classic styles, modern variations are available too. One popular option is tissue prata, and my favourite version has to be the condensed milk tissue prata, where condensed milk is drizzled generously over a thin, crispy crust — sweet, light, and very addictive. Apart from prata, I also fancy their Mee Hoon Mee Goreng and Nasi Goreng, which are comforting choices when you want something more filling. We sometimes order the Ayam Murtabak, where the chicken filling is wrapped with crispy prata, making it hearty and satisfying. But my number one favourite here? 👉 Bomb Kaya Cheese — sweet, cheesy, indulgent, and honestly… just try it to know 😄 A solid spot at Upper Thomson for classic prata, modern twists, and comforting mamak-style dishes — whether for breakfast, supper, or a prata craving any time of the day.
