The Brewing Ground

Ordered their signature grilled cheese sandwich with add-ons. While the portion was impressively large, it wasn’t the best grilled cheese I’ve had. The sandwich lacked the rich, punchy flavour I was hoping for, and the bread didn’t really complement the cheese filling. I was initially looking forward to trying their tomato soup, but it seems they’ve replaced it with a potato and leek soup on the current menu. The truffle fries were a highlight — crispy, fragrant, and well-executed. Surprisingly, the aglio olio turned out to be the star of the meal. It had a creamy texture while still retaining the characteristics of a traditional aglio olio. Very flavourful and satisfying. Service could be improved. We were dining with a crutch user and a heavily pregnant guest, yet we were initially assigned a high table in the middle of the cafe. It would have been nice if the staff had been more observant and considerate of the seating arrangement. Ordering and payment are done at the counter, though a service charge is still applied. Complimentary self-service water is available. The coffee was disappointing despite the cafe having sophisticated coffee machines. The brew tasted rather flat and lacked depth. The iced chocolate was also underwhelming, with the chocolate powder not properly mixed, leaving a grainy texture. That said, it’s a spacious and comfortable place to relax and catch up with friends. There are also a few parking lots available beside the cafe, which is convenient for those driving.

I visited this place because it has high ratings and houses an academy and a restaurant in a building that looks like an old school on the East side. It is located quite deep into the bungalow neighborhood, so accessibility isn't great, but I was surprised by how many people showed up. Even though it was past lunchtime, the line was long. Originally, I wanted to eat in the main building for the atmosphere, but I went to a different building next door. The tables are spaced close together, and perhaps because they are using a building that has already gone out of business, the interior is weak and leaves something to be desired. (In particular, stacking a huge number of bar chairs was not good for the aesthetics or for the customers.) The food is generally tasty. I ordered the popular and safe bets: the crabmeat pasta and the Eggs Benjamin. The pasta basically had no fishy smell compared to other places, had plenty of crab meat, and the dried tomatoes helped cut through the richness. Egg Benjamin is good overall, but personally, I don't really like poached eggs. I'm not sure if it was the sauce or the egg, but the moist sauce combined with the sautéed mushrooms and spinach had just the right amount of seasoning and good balance. As expected, the tomato provided the freshness here as well. The food is tasty and has the typical composition and price range for a brunch. However, in terms of its unique location and accessibility, it isn't convenient to go out of your way to visit often unless you live in the East or nearby, and the long lines aren't a plus.

Third visit in the last 4 years, and it’s one of those rare places where the quality and taste of the food lived up to the same standard as what I remember! Had their Eggs Benjamin and thoroughly enjoyed it. Portion was generous including the spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes which made it a more balanced and satisfying meal overall. Crab meat pasta was pretty good too, they were quite generous with the crabmeat and the ikura compliments nicely. Plus good coffee, friendly service and relaxing environment with cute dogs - will definitely be back again for the fourth time : )

Ordered White Coffee, Matcha Latte, Egg Benjamin, Cod Fish & Chips Overall, the food and drinks were enjoyable, and the portions were quite generous. Service: As the main dining area was closed for maintenance/renovation, we were directed to an alternative seating area. If you’re looking for a quiet dining experience, this may not be the most suitable place. We placed our order via the QR code system, and although the payment went through, the order itself did not. We had to approach the counter for assistance. After some checking, the issue was resolved, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Anyway, the service at the beginning and end of our visit was pleasant—the staff were friendly, kind, and attentive.

Food was decent but it can't go wrong anyway, since the Breakfast Burger dish tasted primarily like heated-up processed food, with its hashbrown and sausage patty being major components of the dish. The fish and chips also tasted average. Well fried but again, processed food taste - fish tasted like it was made from frozen fillet, and fries didn't taste home-made. The service was good. Friendly staff but the place was cramp, noisy and warm with low ventilation even with the aircon on. It is nonetheless quite popular so be prepared to queue outside, which has no aircon or fan. Warm warm warm. Also, this place is not easily accessible. Overall price is not cheap too.

Food: had their signature bf set and garlic butter aglio olio and a pot of osmanthu green tea. Bf was asian-fusion style of bf, spinach was yummy, and bread + butter was so good. But then, I prefer my American bacon over Japan style Iberia pork kind of bacon. Tea was kinda bland in terms of tea flavour. Pasta not bad but maybe a little spiciness can burst the flavors further. Only downside for dessert is that it’s not as attractive and more options as other cafes. Ambience: Chill n relax, good for a weekend brunch spot Staff: friendly, no complains. Definitely recommend and will revisit if I’m in the area.

I've come here multiple times on weekdays and weekends. It's usually packed on weekends but they have 2 dining spaces and outdoor seating open on weekends to handle the crowds. Weekdays are quieter but never empty. The wagyu cheeseburger was juicy, tender, and very yummy. Decent sized as well. The fries were well fried - better than some French bistros! Generous portion of fries too. The lemon pistachio was very moist, tasty, zesty, and my party honestly couldn't stop eating it. I felt that it was too sweet because the top crust was pure sugar. Otherwise, nice. Matcha latte was above average but I've had better. Staff are eloquent and generally very pleasant. Not exceptional service but not poor either. Some staff were very eager to clear our plates when we actually weren't done, and we had to politely tell them no. A great place overall to catch up with friends and enjoy a nice meal.

Review update from 5 stars to 2 stars on 1 March 2026, visiting time about 11:30am. I revisited with my husband & was greeted with a queue which we waited about 20 to 25 mins long. During the waiting time, there were 5 tables empty indoors and plentiful of outdoors seats unoccupied. This waitress, circled in the picture, was the most free waitress I have ever seen. She was telling the patrons of the snaking queue that they are only seating customers when the kitchen can fulfil current orders. Like what? At 1130am, it is obviously past the peak hours because I have been here several times and if they can cater to full house customers, it doesnt make sense that they cannot cater to the current volume which was easily halved. Secondly, not every customer is ordering food, some just wants a drink, and they are denying customers from seating inside and kept all of us waiting in the hot stuffy walkway. Absolutely bonkers. As a waitress, she was just walking around, with hands in her back pockets and sometimes in the apron pocket, no smile, swaying here and they. Think there is no need to have so many waitresses and waiters if you are not serving that many customers at one go. It is frustrating to see my fav cafe being inefficient and losing the human touch. --‐------------------‐-----------------‐----------------- My husband and I patronized Brewing Ground yesterday, on 18 January 2026 at about 10am and I told myself I had to write a review to commend this particular waiter's impeccable service rendered to us. Upon ushering us to our seats, the waiter, who seemed to be Indian, served us water almost immediately. He was very attentive to our requests and needs. It was so delightful to have received such good service in Singapore, which really made my day. Thank you for giving us such a pleasant dining experience and keep it up!
