Xiao long bao taste is on par with Din Tai Fung, if not better. The Pan Fried bun is juicey, but I found the skin a bit thick for my liking. The noodles I will skip and the dou miao vegetable was tender and delicious but too expensive for a very simple dish. No chilli oil available.

We almost walked past 上海人家 because the restaurant looked so quiet when we arrived.. there wasn’t a single customer inside, and the menu was much smaller than what you usually expect from a Chinese restaurant. Honestly, we were quite hesitant at first and weren’t sure if we should dine there.. But decided to give it a try anyway, and we were sooo pleasantly surprised. This is such an unassuming little place, but the food was genuinely delicious. We came as a big family and ended up ordering almost everything on the menu to try. My personal favourites were the drunken chicken (so good we ordered a second plate!), egg with chives, 生煎包, wanton soup, and xiao long bao. The wanton soup stood out despite being such a simple dish the wantons were really comforting and flavourful. Halfway through, chef came out to check on us, and we learnt that both he and his wife are from Shanghai and have been running this place for 15 years. He shared that the reason the menu isn’t very extensive is because over the years, he curated it based on the dishes that customers kept coming back for and loved the most. Service may slow down a little when the place gets busier, but honestly no complaints from us at all. Tbh feels very much like a humble family-run eatery. The aunties may not be the overly chatty or super service-oriented type, but if you just politely let them know what you need, they will def help you. You can tell they’re simply focused on managing the place and serving good food. Highly recommend this place for those who like Chinese food and hidden gems. Def be bringing our parents back again!

Was craving Xiao Long Bao so I decided to try Shanghai Renjia. The food is probably the saving grace of this little eatery. We ordered xiao long bao’s, handmade noodles, pork belly with preserved vegetable bao’s and pan fried baos (sheng jian bao). The star was surprisingly the sweet black vinegar pork belly bao. Service is terribly subpar - I ordered handmade noodles and the staff told me he was not sure if they had any left in the kitchen. I was even reprimanded by the male staff for ordering more black vinegar to go with the xiao long bao’s…?? If a customer orders something, then just let us have it lol. The place is small with 7 tables and two staff managing service. I tried to take a seat at an empty table that previous patrons had cleared. However the staff told me not to sit down and told me to wait. Probably won’t be back as there are Xiao long bao’s elsewhere and I won’t have to navigate funky staff service.

Very disappointing experience. The staff were extremely unfriendly and rude. There is a $1.20 per person charge just to dine in, supposedly for tea, but the tea had no chrysanthemum flavour and tasted weak, as if it had been reused A LOT. The menu is very limited and the food was unappetizing (can take a look at my pictures lol). Everything we ordered was overly salty. The service was unpleasant throughout — the staff acted as if we were intruding rather than being paying customers. We brought our grandmother here for her birthday, and the experience left everyone upset. DO NOT RECOMMEND. SPEND UR COIN ELSEWHERE.

Xiaolongbao and shengjianbao were terribly salty, but the veggies were super bland, on the other hand. Everything was so expensive as well. Even worse, the service being horrible is an understatement. There was a very angry lady who kept giving us short, curt responses and was very passive aggressive with us. Apart from her obvious attitude problems, she was literally nowhere to be found, so when we wanted to order more food we had to go and peek into the kitchen and call out for her. Also the chrysanthemum tea costs $1.20 each. Not per cup, but per HEAD. So whether or not you want to order the tea, you need to pay $1.20 per person as soon as you sit down… ridiculous. Atmosphere - horrible and legit feels eerie ok TLDR; rude staff (especially short hair old lady), unreasonable prices, sad atmosphere and interior design.

I recently chance upon this restaurant while I was in the area and just thought why not give it a try. I feel it is a decent eatery with the scallions oil noodles being its signature dish. The noodle has a springy texture and the sauce blends well. I quite like the fried buns too with the oil a slight oozing out. For me personally the service is ok, it is like a family run business from my understanding so it might be slow sometimes but I feel my wait was reasonable. About 15mins for the food. Recommend reservation and ordering early for the buns cause those they need prep time.
