Ponggol Nasi Lemak

Ordered takeaway ponggol nasi lemak and was surprised at the price is sgd9.90 for chicken wing/ drum set with egg, ikan billis and peanut only. Rice not fantastic. Chicken drum stick average too. Eng Kee Chicken Wing taste nicer. Will not order again, its too expensive!! I remember patronising their stall sometime back, there was hardly any service at all and the coffeeshop is so humid with no space to sit kind. Parking is also limited there.

Ponggol Nasi Lemak is a famous Singapore heritage brand that started as a small stall in 1976 before officially establishing the business in 1979. In its early days, it supplied pre-packed banana leaf nasi lemak to hawker stalls & distributors across Singapore. Today, the brand has grown to multiple outlets across the island while continuing to serve its iconic Chinese traditional style of nasi lemak. The crispy chicken wings remain the highlight & are still one of the most consistent items on the menu. The light batter stays crispy & crunchy, while the meat remains juicy inside. The Muar otah is another worthwhile add on. Thick, moist, & packed with a punchy spice kick. On the downside, the rice isn’t quite what it used to be. It no longer has the same level of fragrance or rich coconut aroma that I remember. The rest of the ingredients are generally decent & do the job. Total bill came to around S$29 for 4 persons, which is pretty expensive nowadays.

Please don’t patronize this shop! The service attitude is extremely poor. I’ve visited three times. The food is just average — not particularly good, but not terrible either. Waiting in line for a long time would be fine, but the service is unbelievably bad. It honestly feels like we’re asking for free food. The first time, my friend helped to place the order, so I didn’t notice much. The second time, I started to experience the poor service. Even though I was with friends, we each placed our own orders and paid separately. The cashier aunty became impatient and questioned why we were making things “so troublesome,” with a very rude tone. Is there anything wrong with ordering and paying individually? When the online payment took a bit longer due to network issues, she was clearly annoyed. The third time was even worse. While I was paying, another aunty beside her asked if I wanted chili, and I said yes. After completing payment, I asked for a bit more, and she immediately reacted with an impatient sigh and said, “Why didn’t you say earlier?” I was focused on making payment — how was I supposed to respond to two people at the same time? If you have no patience for customers, then maybe you shouldn’t be doing this job at all. So seriously, don’t bother coming to this place.

I had a disappointing experience at this Ponggol Nasi Lemak outlet. I wanted to order just a few chicken wings, but I was told I had to take rice as well because there was leftover rice. That felt restrictive and a bit off-putting, especially for a simple supper snack. I understand trying to reduce waste, but the policy made the visit frustrating.

Lovely Nasi lemak with the best sambal. Price is slightly high for a Nasi lemak but having it once in a while bring a lot of joy. Chicken wing is crispy and juicy, superb!

There are Nasi lemak sets with chicken wings & ikan bilis but we ordered the pretty big crispy skin juicy chicken drum stick being first time here for me. I’ve heard of the super long queue at this brand outlets. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait too long. We asked for extra chili because the sweet based chili is so yummy with rice and chicken. Extra order on dry curry veg, very tasty achar with lots of sesame seeds (reminds me of my mom’s) & Ngoh Hiang with crunchy water chestnut. Total spent $11.80 with a big scoop of well balanced coconut rice. Happy belly. Must try.

Very seldom I give one star review. Q so long for this so called famous popular nasi lemak stall. Nearly one hour. The staff also not friendly. It’s just like a shophouse coffee shop. Only one plate of nasi lemak with 1 chicken wing, few strands of veg and sad few small pieces of brinjal, very thin otah was almost $8! Total rip off. The rice was also undercooked and hard. No whatever rice aroma fragrance some influencers said. Really wasted my time to travel there and Q to try this so-call popular stall.

Nice Nasi lemak with the best sambal. Having it once in a while brings a lot of joy. Chicken wing is crispy and juicy, superb!
