Ponggol Nasi Lemak

Please don’t patronize this shop! The service attitude is extremely poor. I’ve visited three times. The food is just average — not particularly good, but not terrible either. Waiting in line for a long time would be fine, but the service is unbelievably bad. It honestly feels like we’re asking for free food. The first time, my friend helped to place the order, so I didn’t notice much. The second time, I started to experience the poor service. Even though I was with friends, we each placed our own orders and paid separately. The cashier aunty became impatient and questioned why we were making things “so troublesome,” with a very rude tone. Is there anything wrong with ordering and paying individually? When the online payment took a bit longer due to network issues, she was clearly annoyed. The third time was even worse. While I was paying, another aunty beside her asked if I wanted chili, and I said yes. After completing payment, I asked for a bit more, and she immediately reacted with an impatient sigh and said, “Why didn’t you say earlier?” I was focused on making payment — how was I supposed to respond to two people at the same time? If you have no patience for customers, then maybe you shouldn’t be doing this job at all. So seriously, don’t bother coming to this place.

Very seldom I give one star review. Q so long for this so called famous popular nasi lemak stall. Nearly one hour. The staff also not friendly. It’s just like a shophouse coffee shop. Only one plate of nasi lemak with 1 chicken wing, few strands of veg and sad few small pieces of brinjal, very thin otah was almost $8! Total rip off. The rice was also undercooked and hard. No whatever rice aroma fragrance some influencers said. Really wasted my time to travel there and Q to try this so-call popular stall.

Punggol Nasi Lemak is one of the more traditional brands that have existed in Singapore. It’s more like mixed rice, but in a Nasi Lemak version where you can choose your preferred side dishes. The rice itself was okay, but it could be better compared to the many coconut rice dishes I have tried before. The side dishes were overall decent, but the portions felt a bit small. During peak periods like dinner, the queue is very long, and it took us at least 10 minutes to reach our turn to order. Both of us had four side dishes each, and the total cost was $15, which is slightly pricey but acceptable for a coffee shop setting.

Nasi Lemak (SGD $11) @ Ponggol Nasi Lemak. . Founded in 1979 by husband-and-wife team of Ang Chye Choon and Madam Koh Ah Tan, the latter being the 1st sister (and eldest) of the Koh Family behind the equally famous Mount Faber Nasi Lemak and Bali Nasi Lemak brands. Known for being the most accessible yet commercial entity amongst the 3 brands, with crowd-pleasing dishes. . Their short-grain jasmine white rice is gently infused with coconut milk and pandan / screwpine leaf essence, fragrant and fluffy with mild grainy earthy milky floral sweet flavour. The tiny deep-fried ikan bilis / anchovies are crispy crunchy in texture with mild salty savoury fishy flavour, while the cucumber slices are juicy and burst with vegetal sweet flavour. The sunny side up chicken egg is wobbly soft and carries eggy savoury sweet flavour, the lovely runny yolk just beautiful. . The sotong / squid balls are bouncy with savoury sweet flavour, while the signature achar / Peranakan pickled salad (comprising cucumber, pineapple, shallots, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, turmeric, white vinegar, white sugar, salt, red chili, and crushed peanuts) is crunchy juicy crispy in texture with vegetal sour sweet spice nutty flavour. The highlight is the large chunky battered chicken drumstick, crisp outside tender inside, with robust meaty savoury salty flavour. The chunky sambal tumis / stir-fried chili paste carries deep savoury salty spice flavour.

Very disappointing experience at this particular outlet. Wanted to order 4 chicken wings as a supper snack. I was asked to buy 2 plate of rice or not buy at all. Reason given was, they have left over rice. It's absurd knowing left over rice is now a customer problem and knowing that they willing to let a hungry customer walked off over plate of rice.

Tried the supposedly famous Ponggol Nasi Lemak at Upper Serangoon Road. First-timers might feel a bit lost—staff will start calling out to take your order even before you reach the counter. The auntie taking orders is quite stern, so don’t take too long to decide or you might get flustered. Prices are on the higher side. Personally, I found the rice lacking the rich lemak (coconut) fragrance, and while the chilli sambal has a unique flavor, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Overall, it felt quite average. Maybe expectations were too high, but nothing particularly special stood out

The staffs here are EXTREMELY rude! Will not patronise this outlet anymore! All please avoid unless you want to get shouted at. Especially the old aunty in the first picture, please learn some basic manners!

one of best nasi lemak in SG. started patronising since 20years back and still coming back for their amazing chicken wings, lemak rice and chilli! quality and tastes of their various dishes still maintained over the years, not an easy feat. prices prob slightly above normal cai fan but in my opinion worth it for the better taste. always long queue probably speaks for itself. this place certainly is one of the rarer food establishment in SG that has such longevity.
