Fong Seng Nasi Lemak Clementi Road

Would not recommend the food. Recently was my second time ordered food from this stall since the last order was two years ago which was as bad as the second time. Everything Was Oily. You could see the glittering oil on the kitchen napkins. The rice, egg and chicken cutlet were extremely oily, in the mouth and on the fingers. The chicken cutlet (thigh) was fried overly charred and with many thick layers of oily and very hard crispy skin. It also smelled charred and tasted bitter. Had to remove the layers of chicken skin before eating. Wonder how times the chicken pieces have been refried or the high frequency of the oil being reused. Not worth eating it for anyone's health sake.

Visited Fong Seng Nasi Lemak and can understand why this place remains so popular over the years. Even during my visit, there was a steady queue and it moved relatively slowly, probably because many customers were placing large takeaway orders. The owner was sitting nearby quietly observing the operations, which gave the place a very old-school and authentic feel The nasi lemak itself is good value for money, with a wide variety of add-on options to customise your plate. The fried chicken was crispy and flavourful, the rice was fragrant, and the sambal had a nice balance of sweetness and spice. I also liked seeing the different ingredients displayed clearly at the counter, making it easy to pick what you want The shop has a simple no-frills setup, but the food quality and generous choices make it worth the wait

I get why this place is famous as a meeting place for NUS students, particularly for suppers. Airy semi-outdoor place, relatively affordable and filling meals (some set menus are priced at around $4) and opens well into the early hours. Went there before the dinner crowd came over and ordered the boneless teriyaki nasi lemak set, with veggie achar as side. The sambal was absolutely spot on for a nasi lemak - not too sweet, with enough hot spicy punchiness. The teriyaki chicken was soft and well-marinated. Will come back for dinner to try their other sets if I'm in the area.

Nasi Lemak (SGD $9) @ Fong Seng Nasi Lemak. . Established in June 1983, this stall caters primarily to hungry university students and port workers, the result of which means large and generous portions at affordable wallet-friendly prices, coupled with long operating hours through most of the day and night. The place isn't a culinary bastion, but it is a place for fast, cheap, and good eats. . The sticky and moist white rice carries a mild fragrance of coconut cream, a touch of grainy earthy floral sweet flavour. The achar / Peranakan pickled salad is crunchy and juicy with bright vegetal sour sweet spice flavour, the deep-fried ikan bilis / anchovies is crisp and crunchy with fishy savoury salty flavour, and the fried chicken egg with runny yolk is wobbly and soft with eggy sweet savoury flavour. . The sotong / squid balls are springy bouncy with savoury sweet flavour, the battered crab stick surimi is tender and crisp with mild sweet savoury briny salty flavour, and the battered chicken wing is tender though not as crisp as I'd hoped yet carrying meaty sweet savoury flavour. Their grainy sambal tumis / stir-fried chili paste is mild with sweet savoury salty spice flavour.

Super hot and damn long queue(rched around 12pm waited about 25min), but food is good and price is okay! Not many set options so had to get ala carte chicken cutlet alongside other stuff, $6.70 total! My colleague tried their curry puff and he say v good hahha. Recommended if not too long queue😆 btw i think the tempura crabstick tastes exactly like the frozen ntuc crabstick, tempura dh taste.. (just in case u were expecting smth special hehe) imma try the tempura prawn or fish fillet next time~😋

Lured by reviews and hearsay, I'm usually pretty skeptical about these so called famous brands that have multiple outlets everywhere. So imagine when we rolled up to this rather out of the way locale and discover a snaking queues. Mind you these won't even students from NUS, these were corporate types perspiring in their long sleeves - thank goodness we were in causal wear due to an outside appointment. 30min queue aside, it just only raised expectations even higher since whatever is making these office types brave scorching weather must be worth it right? Well, to be fair the Nasi Lemak ain't too shabby. My requirements for awesomeness has to be the divine trinity of fragrant coconut rice, fiery sambal and lip smacking hot, crisp and juicy chicken wings. Get all these right and your will immediately get a 4 stars. For Fong Seng its nothing mind blowing, everything was done to above average levels. The sambal had heat and wasn't overtly sweet, the chicken wings were hot and crisp, though you can its frozen, the meat on the bone usually retains a purple hue and the rice was somewhat fragrant. I also ordered otah which was forgettable, sotong ball also passable and a side of long beans that were not bad. I have had better but if I dont want to compare with the best, the dish here with its condiments is decent, however to stand in the scorching sun just to eat this i probably will only come here pass lunch hour or if I ever find myself at West Coast with an insane Nasi Lemak craving.

Priced at 4.5 SGD, this Chicken Wing Set is a classic example of a solid and affordable breakfast. The portion size is just right to start the day, with all the essential elements of nasi lemak present and accounted for. However, there's a minor note on the balance of proportions; the rice portion feels a bit dominant compared to the sides. The sambal also leans towards the sweet side and could probably use a slightly stronger spicy kick to satisfy. That said, with crispy chicken wings and other solid components, this remains a very worthwhile and satisfying option for a quick breakfast.

The food is really good! the sambal was sweet and spicy. the fried chicken, fish fillet, fried prawn was so crispy. the egg yolk was also oozing on the rice. the only downside is the service is really slow. i went in the morning, only one aunty working, the aunty works a little bit slower, taking orders one by one slowly. the place was a little too hot. luckily i went in the morning before the sun rise and got to sit outside with some cool wind.
