Prata was hot but soft, lacking any fluffy or crispy texture. Curry was good. Teh tarik decent. Overall very normal experience, no hint of the “Jalan Kayu prata” legend of years past. IMO not worth coming all the way just for this.

This place is still the best along this entire stretch. Same good food since I was young till now 2026! My prata and kambeng soup king! The outdoor siting area should also be made entirely No Smoking. A group of road cyclists was seen trying to hide the smoke while eating and drinking.

I used to wonder what’s so great about Jalan kayu prata, because I had only eaten at the restaurant located next to the carpark, but recently tried Thasevi for the first time. Even though it’s less crowded and smaller than the other shop, I much prefer Thasevi.. Their Masala thosai was one of the best I’ve ever had! Huge chunks of potatoes and a fantastic side of sambar with whole chickpeas. Daal and chutneys were delicious and generous amount as well! I found it even better than those I’ve had at Little India.. Also had a double egg prata and it was also piping fresh and amazingly fluffy.. It’s no wonder this restaurant has been in business for 66 years!

Visited Thasevi Food again after more than 10 years, and it was a very satisfying experience. Ordered the roti prata, mutton briyani and teh tarik. 🥞 Roti Prata Texture has changed from the old crispy style to a more soft and fluffy type, but I actually enjoyed it. It’s light, not oily, with a slight crisp on the outside and absorbs the curry well. Very comforting and easy to eat. 🍛 Mutton Briyani Impressive. The mutton was tender and not gamey, with a generous portion. The rice was fragrant, well-spiced and not too oily. A hearty and satisfying plate. ☕ Teh Tarik Smooth and well-balanced, not overly sweet. Very enjoyable. Overall, still a solid place for prata and briyani. 👉 No need to compare with the past — it’s still good today. Worth coming down to try. Will definitely be back again 👍

I had a fantastic experience at Thasevi. One thing that really stood out was the egg prata - it was served warm, which is surprisingly rare even among many prata spots in Singapore. That small detail made a big difference. The dal curry was equally impressive: rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. It complemented the prata perfectly and made the meal especially satisfying. Overall, it’s a place that clearly pays attention to quality and execution. Definitely worth visiting if you’re looking for great prata and comforting, flavorful dishes. So good you’ll lick your plate clean.

Kinda like the atmosphere here, but the food is just above average. Since it's 24hrs, it's a good place to hang out at odd hours of the day. The Beehoon Goreng and Mee Goreng Mutton were quite standard fare and nicely done. The prata was standard, not much of a fanfare here, as was the Thosai. The thosai was kinda moist, which I prefer more crispy. What's interesting though was that they served the chili egg sambal with the thosai which I found unique. Odd though, tried to feed a stray cat with the kambing and it didn't want it.

Murtabak (SGD $8) @ Thasevi Food. . Founded in December 1981, the original Jalan Kayu prata stall has seen peaks and troughs in their business, though in recent years, they've made a quiet comeback. . Their rendition is well-executed, with fluffy crisp layers of folded dough, filled with wispy chicken egg, crisp red onions, and a choice of either tender turmeric minced mutton or chewy shredded chicken. . With smoky bready vegetal meaty eggy sweet salty savoury spice flavour. Paired with juicy cucumber dressed with thick tomato ketchup with vegetal sweet flavour, and a side of curry for a salty spicy kick. . . . Mutton Mysore (SGD $7) @ Thasevi Food. . Founded in the 1960s but officially registered in December 1981, this family-run casual eatery is renowned for popularising the "Jalan Kayu Roti Prata" brand in Singapore, and is currently managed by Thasveerali Ali. . Their rendition differs because of the curry gravy, with less use of red chili and more curry leaves. The deboned mutton cubes are simmered within, infusing it with flavour. . Has tender chewy textures, with mellow meaty savoury salty spice flavour. Inspired by South Indian cuisine in style, yet different enough to be uniquely Singaporean.

Far and above the best traditional (crispy + fluffy) roti canai in Singapore. Anyone who says otherwise has no tastebuds to speak of. 1. The prata is well executed 2. All 3 curries are distinct and delicious. Special shout-out to the fork tender chicken curry that's in a class of its own.
