Is this the famous janggut laksa?? The lady doesn't even greet the customers, like we are such a hassle-pest dropping by her shop. The laksa was served with small amount of curry soup gravy, with pitiful amount of fish cake and 1 tiny slice of prawn and miniscule amount of herb,,,like they are so unwilling parting their "'precious"'soup.🙄 And for all of this laksa they will charged you.. $6 ,,SHIOK???🙄 Tastewise nothing impressive, If this is the famous katong laksa ,man this is such a disappointment. If you don't believe me just walk across the street and taste the other brand.

For some strange reason, the broth is not hot when served?! By later in the evening two members of my family felt a little queasy from eating it. The laksa noodles are also not cut to size correctly with many in the coffeeshop using chopsticks. Isn’t that the whole point? To use only the spoon? Ingredients are stingy, with the only differentiator the amount of noodles between the sizes. Even the largest and smallest bowl get the same scoop of gravy. And in 2025, they rudely refuse to accept digital payments. Cash only. Nothing special about this outlet even though it’s the “birthplace”. Move along.

Hidden away in the first floor of Roxy Square 1. Laksa is decent. The gravy is flavourful but a little more subtle than 328 Katong Laksa. Would have liked a little bit more chilli and a bit more punch but it is still pretty good. I suppose there will be some people who prefer this over the other Katong Laksas. I think this is pretty good laksa if you are in the area but I wouldn’t make a special trip down just to eat it. The place could be a little cleaner. The trays are not very clean and there is no central tray return, so you have to return them to the individual stores when you are done eating.

This original Katong laksa is truly my favorite version of this iconic dish. The gravy strikes a perfect balance—light in texture yet wonderfully rich and layered with flavors that keep you coming back for more. Every spoonful carries the unmistakable fragrance of coconut milk blended harmoniously with spices. The fresh cockles add a delightful briny sweetness, while the prawns are plump, juicy, and cooked just right to retain their natural succulence. The rice noodles soak up the broth beautifully, making each bite satisfying. Overall, it’s an authentic, comforting bowl of laksa that I would highly recommend to anyone.

Laksa is a pretty contentious dish, and a lot of people have differing opinions about what good laksa tastes like, or what the original “Katong” laksa should be. Honestly, I don’t really care. I went around Singapore trying many different bowls of laksa, comparing each one, and there are many good spots and top contenders. Janggut Laksa is one of them. It does not matter that there may be better spots according to some people’s tastes. Maybe the older generation remembers this Janggut being much better in the past, as they are indeed a heritage brand. Maybe Sungei Road Laksa or 928 Yishun Laksa might taste “stronger” or “better” according to one’s preferences. That doesn’t really matter to me. I don’t care if Janggut did it better in the past. All I know is that Janggut Laksa does their laksa pretty well right now. While Janggut might not have as many ingredients and toppings as other laksa places, I think it’s the strongest in flavour: rich, creamy, and lemak while still having a lot of that rempah spice stand out for the distinctive laksa flavours. The hae bee (dried shrimp) taste is also quite to the fore here unlike other laksa spots. However, I think there is an inconsistency in the quality of the laksa here. Some days, the hae bee taste is too strong and overpowers the dish, probably because I came too late and they’re reaching in the bottom of the pot for the remaining broth. Overall, I think Janggut Laksa is rather enjoyable. Is it the best bowl of laksa in the country? It’s hard to say what is best. Other laksas are pretty good too. Certainly, the best bowl of laksa may be different to you, and from person to person. “Selegie Road Laksa” (you mean Sungei Road right…) might be better in your books, or perhaps some random coffeeshop laksa (you know how to eat laksa meh? really?) idk. All I know is, Janggut has done a pretty decent laksa over the years, and will continue doing so in times to come. PS. It gets really crowded at noon, be prepared to fight for seats lmao. Also, the $6 portion is rather small, but get the $7 which is decently sized.

An old food court in an old Mall. First time trying Janggut Laksa @ Roxy Squre. Reached there around 11am no queue and quite just a couple of diners. Ordered their mid size serving after seeing their small serving bowl was just not enough for me. Somehow the broth was not piping hot just lukewarm, ingredients just barely can see them. Taste wise take me few scoops later to like it but was more to the salty side. Overall an average bowl of Laksa but a little expensive for what a $7 can be better.

decided to have this for lunch as it’s been a while since my last time. the lady who served me was rather rude which is really uncalled for. it was about 11:30am and it wasn’t even crowded - i would have understood if she was busy or i was being rude first! just asked a simple Q and she had to raise her voice w frustration. if ur in a bad mood, pls sort out urself and not victimize ur customers. the food is a little on the salty side but overall disappointed w the service. don’t think i’ll be back for a long time!

SLURP! That's the sound of every scoop of this favourite dish. They "bath" the noodles in front of you reminding you that the laksa paste in your home is nothing compared to this! Price range from $6 to $8 and its worth every penny. They serve only 1 dish and after 70 years of practice, this laksa is perfection. They have a few more outlets around Singapore but if you're in Katong or Eunos area, it's absolutely worth the visit.
