Tried the famous gelato shop in Katong while exploring the nearby restaurants and cafes. The shop itself was quite small with space for only around 10 people to queue inside. They offered a wide variety of unique gelato flavors and the cones were freshly made in-house. We sampled a few interesting flavors but in the end, we still found ourselves going back to our usual favorites.

I haven’t had Bird of Paradise gelato in a long time, and we’ve noticed that the quality has dropped. It’s not as creamy as it used to be, and it melted very quickly—even though the weather was gloomy and rainy, not hot when we stepped outside. Their signature handmade thyme cone is still pleasantly fragrant. The staff are also nice and patient, allowing us to sample the flavors before making our decision.

Yea look, I'm a boring sorta guy, so even though I tried different flavours, I stuck with my vanilla guns. But this vanilla is pretty great, cos it's with something fancy like figs. Having said that, the pistachio ice cream is rich, the seasalt houjicha is a close second. Don't be silly and get the ice cream in a cup, the thyme cone is the star of the show. It really is something else. Heads up that yes, it is a bit pricey. Between the three of us, the tally came up to S24 and there's no place to sit down. You'd just have to grab and go and eat en route to wherever you're heading to next.

DON’T BUY BOP’S ONLINE GIFT CARDS IF YOU PLAN TO USE THEM IN-STORE. I received a gift card by email and assumed (as most people would) that it could be used both online and in-store. There was nothing in the email that clearly stated it was online-only. I went down to the Katong shop to redeem it, only to be told that online gift cards cannot be used in-store because they are tied to the “main office” and not to the individual outlets. The staff member on duty (female, transparent blue glasses, bangs) was curt and unhelpful, she pointed out the words “ONLINE GIFT CARD” in the email, but there was no clear explanation that it must be redeemed on the online store only or that it is limited to pre-order items. For a premium brand, the user experience was surprisingly poor: 1. Unclear communication in the gift card email 2. The staff response felt unhelpful, without any apology or attempt to assist 3. It was frustrating to make a trip down only to be told I couldn’t use the gift card when the items were literally available in-store. If you want a hassle-free gift card experience, get it somewhere else. This setup is confusing, poorly communicated, and not customer-friendly at all.

This is one of the highest rated ice cream shops in all of Singapore. And now that we've visited, I understand why. The commitment to quality at Birds of Paradise is sensational, offering this small but clean store with creative gelatos that are held to impeccable standards. The strawberry gelato with hints of basil is a winner, but all flavors are delicious! This particular store has a 10-person capacity, but there are usually spots available to enjoy your gelato inside away from the Singapore heat. And it's some of the best you'll ever eat and even includes dairy-free options.

Great customer service, it was my first time there and the staff kindly informed us that there was free tasting available. With that we were able to try out different flavours and select the flavour that suit our fancy. Highly recommend getting the Valrhona Sea Salt Cookies and Cream if you get the chance as it’s a Christmas special, i loved the balance between sweet and salty. It also has little chunks of oreo bits which added a nice texture. Cone became soggy quickly tho as the ice cream melted pretty quickly on this sunday afternoon.

Such a gem! I finally got to try Birds of Paradise after hearing so much about it - and it totally lived up to the hype. The flavors are so unique and refreshing (I got the White Chrysanthemum and Lychee Raspberry, and both were amazing). You can really taste how thoughtfully made everything is. The thyme cone is a must-try too - warm, crispy, and adds such a nice herbal touch. The store itself has a clean, calming vibe, and the staff were friendly. Definitely worth the wait, and a must-visit if you’re into artisanal ice cream with a twist! 🍦✨
