No frills, black or white (or both) fried carrot cake. They are priced at S$5, $7, $9, with the mixed plate starting at $8. The chunks of carrot cake (steamed white rice cakes) vary in sizes when cooked, allowing you to taste the softness and lightness from the larger pieces, and enjoying the smaller ones coated with more egg and seasoning (such as garlic and pickled radish).
While the fragrance of egg is more prominent in the white version, the black one cooked with sweet dark soy sauce is a must-try. Left to caramelise in and develop a slight char on the wide pan, the dark sauce takes the classic carrot cake to another satisfying level of eating. The sambal chili on the side may be necessary for spice lovers, but is also negligible for those who appreciate the dish as it is.
