328 Katong Laksa

Sorely disappointing experience. I was really looking forward to having Katong Laksa after being away from Singapore for a while. I’ve heard they’ve expanded with many branches, but I made the effort to visit the original outlet. Unfortunately, it now feels more like a fast food joint. Ordering is done at the counter, and the overall atmosphere lacked the charm and character. The use of black plastic bowl and a large, fat rounded spoon made eating clumsy. In the past, although chopsticks weren’t provided, the thinner metal spoon made it much easier to enjoy the laksa. Worse still, the chilli was served in packets, which further took away from the overall experience and made our fingers oily. I recall only scooping one smallish prawn which has been deshelled and hidden in the soup. While the laksa itself tasted alright, it didn’t feel distinctive—I could have had something similar elsewhere. What truly dampened the experience was being asked to leave by the owner after we had finished eating and were catching up with friends we hadn’t seen in a while, even though there were still plenty of empty tables. It was 4pm-ish in the afternoon. It felt very unwelcoming. Never again.

My love affair with laksa started off with 328 Katong Laksa. Not this branch in particular, but the other one down the road. From what I understand, this is the OG 328, even though who came up with the OG Katong Laksa is up for debate. Still, if you beat Gordon Ramsay you gotta play that up. But this is one of the best bowls of food Singapore has to offer. Living in Malaysia, I do feel like the majority of the food is better across the border, but there are a few dishes where Singapore excels. This is one of them. The broth is other worldly, it's a seafood punch and a whole sum of flavours: spicy, sweet, savoury, creamy. Expect to line up even on a normal non-peak weekday. Make sure you use that extra spice in the packet they give you.

One of the best hidden gems I found in Singapore for laksa. If you’re visiting SG, this place is definitely worth trying! the laksa is seriously so good. The prices are also really affordable (Small SGD 7.30, Large SGD 9.30). It’s a simple self-service spot, and the place itself is pretty small and not exactly Instagrammable, but honestly the taste makes up for everything. No regrets coming here at all.

The restaurant is not halal certified. According to their staff it's no pork and no lard. So if you are Muslim and you prefer the official Halal version, i recommend you to buy their instant noodle at the counter which cost you only $3. I cooked it at home by following the instruction at the packaging and I was pleasently surprised by the taste. The soup doesn't like an instant noodle soup at all. It's rich, flavourful and full of that familiar laksa aroma. It's also super travel friendly pack - great to keep at home, bring to the office or pack for trips. It also makes a great take-home food gift for tourist as it can be considered something uniquely Singaporean.

Ah the famous SG katong laksa,found it at last. This establishment serves the famous laksa which receive Michelin bib award. The laksa was rich in flavour,with the sweetness and fragrance of the coconut milk–combine with the spiciness from the dried shrimp+added some local herbs. The noodles served in smaller pieces so you can conveniently eat them with a spoon. (No chopstick required lol),this laksa was topped with shrimp halves and slices of fishcake and plenty of herbs.(Dunno what is that,but loved it since they are not stingy with it The service is quick and prompt 😋👍. They are not stingy with their soup gravy,right amount of thick white beehun ,herbs and their chilly is superb too. If you are intending to visit opposite competitor,I strongly suggest that you cancell those visit. You have found the proper place for KATONG LAKSA.👍😋. Just take MRT to marine parade,walk towards Roxy square cross the pedestrian bridge and you will found this establishment!!.🤓

Taste is good but its nothing to be amazed about, product does not match images at all even though it says pictures are for illustration only, it should be at least similar. Zero prawns, even though image shows prawn. But the laksa is good, its just not as good as you would expect. Sydney’s Laksa like Happy Chef in Haymarket is much better, but its like 3 times the price of this place so… maybe flying 8 hours is worth it.

Tried this famous Katong Laksa at its original location, which received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. The place is about a 10 min walk from Marine Parade MRT station. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining with ample seating. Photos of celebrities who have visited and tried their famous laksa are pasted on the wall. After ordering and paying at the counter, the laksa were immediately served. The laksa was rich in flavour, you can taste the sweetness of the coconut milk–based broth and the spiciness from the dried shrimp. The noodles were cut into smaller pieces so you can conveniently eat them with a spoon. The original laksa was topped with small shrimp halves and slices of fishcake while the shredded chicken laksa was topped with a generous amount of shredded chicken and a perfectly soft-boiled egg. I also tried the Luohan Longan which was not too sweet.

First time visiting, the original branch of the very famous 328 Katong Laksa in Singapore. It was some distance from the Marine Parade MRT but it's quite straight forward and be prepared to cross an overhead bridge. The shop looks pretty standard but the air con is cooling and comfortable. While the food requires some wait it comes out piping hot and well worth it, the broth is creamy and well spiced. While I was taken aback as they only use a spoon as the utensil, it actually made sense since they would like you to savour the broth with the unique laksa noodles which I never tried before, it's a thin rectangular shape. The onsen egg is very creamy and the yolk melts in your mouth which really elevated the experience as well. At below 8 SGD it's very well worth it but be ready for the spiciness. The otah otah is also above average and the lime juice as well.
