Thunder Tea Rice

Located at Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre. Stall number #01-183. Price: $5.00 (Lei Cha Brown Rice) The ingredients of the Lei Cha (Thunder Tea Rice) includes fried bean curd, sweet chye poh (preserved radish bits), long beans, stir fried cabbage, mani cai (sweet leaf) and peanuts. Tea soup is basil based and the soup is not as thick as more water was added. Lei Cha has many vegetables which adds different textures and flavours paired alongside the soft brown rice and savoury basil tea soup is a dish that you will come back again for. Only spoons are provided here. Do come support the lesser known dishes in Singapore!

Healthy and nutritious ( no MSG, less oil and salt), with vegan option. For vegans/ vegetarians, do inform the hawker that you want it vegan (*with no shrimps). Do also note that it contains alliums, so it’s not for religious vegans/ vegetarians. ** Lei cha (擂茶 pounded tea or ground tea) is a traditional Chinese Hakka tea-based beverage or gruel. In English, the dish is sometimes called thunder tea since "thunder" (雷) is homonymous with "pounded" (擂)

Extremely bad attitude. I asked for small bowl. She demanded for 20 cents in a fierce tone. This is unheard of for me, never had an encountered anyone asking for a small bowl while dining in at a hawker. So I thought she’s maybe joking? I paused my actions and looked at her with a smile. She got more fierce and told me not to smile, saying that the bowls are “from outside”. I’m perfectly ok if the bowls come with a charge, you just need to act like a decent human being and say nicely about this rule. Or put up a sign that says extra bowls come with a charge. Don’t need to get all worked up and treat your customer like an enemy. Spoilt my appetite, won’t patronise ever again.

Ordered the white rice leicha for takeaway. Ingredients were generous and unlike most places, their soup is really nice with a good balance!! Added in an omelette which was incredibly fluffy and added flavour to the dish (it has caipo in it).

This stall offered a big portion at a reasonable price. However, it fell short in terms of flavor. Notably, the anchovies were missing, which was a disappointment. On the other hand, the extra pork balls added a tasty element to the dish.

Cai same like famous Boonlay Thunder rice but the mint soup more stronger flavour but I still enjoy it, I guess because Boonlay use sesame seeds in their mint soup, price wise for white rice thunder lei cha is same with boon lay 4.5$

I ordered brown rice but the ingredients are getting lesser and not as nice as in the past. HOMETASTE HAKKA LEI CHA 家乡味擂茶 / Thunder Tea Rice at S310127 is much better.
