The thing I most wanted to eat in Thailand was mango sticky rice. That day, a friend took me for a stroll along Song Viet Road, and in an inconspicuous alley around a corner, Wanjai Cafe House caught my eye. The weathered walls, vintage decorations, tables and chairs, and even arcade games instantly transported me back in time. Several photos of King Rama V hung on the wall. While eating, I listened to my local friend slowly recount that royal history. The previously unfamiliar past felt surprisingly welcoming in the atmosphere of the old house.

So happy we chanced upon this small traditional store in Bangkok! They only operate for about five months each year, and we happened to walk by after enjoying a great oyster omelette meal. What a lucky day! The mango sticky rice was absolutely delicious. The quality of the sticky rice really makes all the difference—it was perfectly cooked, fragrant, and paired beautifully with the sweet mango. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The mangoes are sweet and fresh, the sticky rice is soft, and the coconut milk is just the right amount of savory. Plus, the place is vintage and cozy, perfect for relaxing while chatting.

Came here today because I’ve heard a lot about it. I have lived in Thailand for 12 years and when we arrived, there were dozens of people scattered all around. The place is a bit disorganized with the staff is very friendly. You kinda have to be aggressive to find a table. As far as the mango sticky rice, it’s pretty mid. I don’t understand why this place is so famous because it taste just like every other mango sticky rice in Thailand. Not sure if it’s worth the price or the weight or the chaos.

This cafe on Song Wat street is truly a local gem! 🥭 Their traditional Thai offerings, like the mango rice dessert and local pastries, were incredibly authentic and delicious.
