Rewards Programme Terms

Last updated 12 June 2026

HotPlace pays small cash rewards for verified, honest reviews. These terms explain how earning, verification and withdrawal work. They form part of our Terms of Service. The programme is currently in a pilot phase — amounts and rules are deliberately conservative and may change as we learn.

1. The one rule that matters

Rewards never depend on what your review says. A one-star warning earns exactly what a five-star rave earns. We pay for verified, firsthand honesty — never for sentiment. Businesses cannot pay for reviews, on HotPlace or off it, and rewarded reviews are labelled in the app so readers always know a reward was earned.

2. Earning a reward

A review earns a reward when it is verified. Verification means:

  • The review passed our content standards and was published.
  • Your visit is corroborated by proof — for example a queue ticket at the place, a reservation, or a location check. What counts as sufficient proof is determined by us and may evolve.
  • One review (and at most one reward) per person per place.
  • During the pilot, the reward is a flat amount per verified review (currently S$0.10). We may change the amount, add caps, or vary rewards by campaign at any time — changes apply to future reviews, not to credits you already have.
  • Rewards are credited to your in-app wallet.

3. Pending period and clawback

New credits sit in a pending state for a clawback window before they confirm. A credit is reversed (clawed back) if, before or during that window:

  • You retract the review.
  • You substantively rewrite the review (small fixes — typos, formatting — are free and don't affect verification; changing the substance or the rating resets it).
  • The review is removed for breaching the Community Guidelines or our terms.
  • We determine the review or its visit proof was fraudulent.

If you already withdrew the money:a withdrawn reward can't be pulled back from your bank account, so the trade-off flips. If you ask to retract a review whose reward has been withdrawn, the review is instead anonymised — your name comes off it, the content stays published, and you keep the money. The platform paid for the content, not your byline.

4. Withdrawing

  • Withdrawals require a minimum confirmed balance (shown in the app) and a supported payout method.
  • Before your first withdrawal we verify your identity through a specialist provider. The provider handles your documents; we store only the verification result — see the Privacy Policy.
  • Withdrawals are processed as quickly as our payment partners allow; we'll show the expected timing in the app.
  • Wallet balances are not bank deposits, accrue no interest, and have no cash value until paid out. They are not transferable between accounts.

5. Fraud

Gaming the programme — fake visits, GPS spoofing, review rings, duplicate accounts, fabricated content — forfeits the rewards involved, may forfeit your remaining balance, and may end your account. Where money has been paid out against fraud, we reserve the right to recover it.

6. The boring but important bits

  • Writing reviews for rewards does not make you our employee, agent or contractor.
  • Any tax due on rewards is your responsibility.
  • The programme is discretionary. We may change, pause or end it at any time. If we end it, confirmed balances above the minimum withdrawal threshold will be honoured for withdrawal for a reasonable wind-down period, where the law allows.
  • These terms are governed by Singapore law, like the rest of our Terms of Service.
